REINHARD W. STRASSBERGER, OF WEEHAWKEN, NEW JERSEY.
CARD FOR WRAPPING THREAD, BRAID, 850.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 25, 1908.
Application filed January 29, 1908. Serial No. 413,218.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REINHARD W. Srnnss- BERGER, citizen of the United States, residing at Highwood Park, Weehawken, Hudson county, New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cards for rapping Thread, Braid, &c., 'of which the following is a specification.
In wrapping thread, braid and other material it is of advantage to wrap the material in sections or divisions of a given measure or a certain number of yards in each division. Each section with its given measure can be removed or broken off and the braid or material remaining on the other section or sections having its free end held in a suitable notch can be kept on the remainder of the spool until needed or sold.
This invention is set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the annexed drawing.
In this drawing the letter a designates a card which is provided with notches b and projections c to form subdivisions on which certain quantities of thread may be wound. The card is also provided with longitudinal slits cl whereby each subdivision may be severed with its thread or braid.
The new feature of the present invention consists in providing the card with a series of oblique slits c. The ends of the thread or braid are inserted in the slits and prevent the thread from being unwound.
As a quantity of braid on its section is out off a loose end of braid is left hanging which being slipped or caught in a slit c will be held until each section in its turn is broken and clipped off. The slits c branch from or run obliquely into the edges of the spool or card or into the scores or cuts d. When a card section is broken off the new edge or outer end formed will have a notch c extending thereinto to clip or hold succeeding free ends of the material.
I do not claim anything shown in U. S. Patent 130672 Of Aug. 20, 1872.
I claim 1. A card for wrapping thread and the like having interrupted longitudinal slits forming separable sections, a notch at each end of the separable sections and oblique slits adapted to hold the ends of the mate rial wound on the card, the longitudinal slits being relatively long, and the oblique slits being relatively short, the short slits extending obliquely with respect to the longitudinal slits and terminating in the longitudinal slits at a point removed from one end thereof.
2. A card for wrapping thread and the like provided with a plurality of rows of relatively long longitudinal slits forming separable card sections, a notch at each end of the separable card sections, the slits of one row being arranged in parallelism with respect to the slits of an adjacent row and relatively short slits extending obliquely with respect to the longitudinal slits and terminating in the longitudinal slits at a point removed from one end thereof.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
REINHARI) W. STRASSBERGER.
