'WASHER FOR CASE SCREWS FOR WATCHES.
' APPLICATION IILEI) T11R20. 190a.
CHARLES E. OASHMORE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WASHER FOR CASE-SCREWS FOR WATCHES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 28, 1908.
Application filed FebruaryZZOLlQOS. Serial No. 416,948.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E, CASH- MORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washers for Case-Screws for Watches; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to attachments to watches, and has for its object to provide means whereby the watch works may be held in place when the case screw or shoulder which it engages is worn away, or the case become sprung.
Another object is to provide a device of this kind which will revent watch move ments from becoming oose in the case.
Another object is to provide a device of this kind which may be easily and cheaply manufactured, and which will be efficient in service.
In the drawing, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a top plan view of my device applied to a watch; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a detail.
This device, as shown in the drawings, comprises a washer 1, having an are shaped body 3 formed with a central inwardly extending approximately circular centrally apertured bearing portion 2. As shown, the washer is applied to the watch movement generally indicated by the reference numeral 4, comprising rear and front frame plates 5 and 6 respectively, provided with the usual case screw 7, said washer being arranged in position with its body bearing upon the rim 10 of the case, the outer edge of its body concentric with the periphery of plate 5 and with its inwardly extending bearing portion extending under the headof the case screw 7 and fitting against the rear face of plate 5. A spacing block 11 is also arranged between the plates in position to receive the body of the screw sa1d block serving to increase the rigidity between the parts at this point.
As is well known, the movement is held in place by means of the case screw head 8, but when the head 8 becomes worn, or the adj acent portion of the case rim 10 becomes worn,
some additional means is necessary to hold the watch movement in place. It will be noticed that the arms 3 are relatively small, as compared to the width of the body portion 2. This permits the arms 8 to be bent against the rim 10, whenever it is necessary thus to secure or come in contact with the same on account of warping or bending of the watch case.
It is, of course, well known that any number of case screws may be used as is desirable, and, of course, when desired the number of washers which are used may be equal to .or less than the number of case screws.
It will be seen without further explanation that my device will firmly hold the watch movement in the case, and thus perform the use for which it is designed.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent, is:
In a watch, the combination with the front and back frame plates and a case having a rim to engage the peripheries of said plates, of a spacing block arranged between the plates and against the rim of the case, a washer comprising an are shaped body formed with a central inwardly extending bearing portion, said washer being arranged in position with its body bearing upon the rim of the case and extending in a plane concentric with the periphery of.the back plate and with its bearing portion bearing upon the rear face of said plate, and a case screw extending through the bearing portion of the washer, the front and back plates and the spacing block, the head of the screw seating on the bearing portion of the washer.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- IIGSSQS.
CHARLES E. CASHMORE. Witnesses: WILLIAM J. WALLAoE, J. R. GoRHAM.
