Description

PATENTED MAR. 10
A. I. JORDAN.
GATAMENIAL DEVICE.
APPLIGATION FILED JAN. 16, 1906.
WITNESSES INVENTOR @3764? -9Zra7zamZJ6 rdm 5r HIS 'ATTOHNEVS ABRAHAM I. JORDAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CATAMENIAL DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
YatentedMarch 10, 19 08.
Application filed January 16, 1906. Serial No. 296,252.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM .1. JORDAN, a
- citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State :of New York, have invented certain new :and useful Improvements in Catamenial Devices, of which the following isa specificatien, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to catamenial devices, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and which may be comfortably worn and conveniently mana ed for all natural purposes, and which may also be kept clean and 1n proper condition at all times; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed .as hereinafter de scribed and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms .a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a pers ective side view of my improved catamenia device and indicating the method of its use Fig. 2 a transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 ;Fig. 3 a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
In the practice of my invention, I provide an oblong bag-shaped member a composed of waterproof material, and the rear end of which is (provided with a flap or fly a and the front en thereof with a flap or fly a said rear end flap or fly being provided with flexible spreaders or expanders a whereby the flap or fly a, is held in a laterally expanded position, and the front end flap or fly a is provided with similar transversely arranged flexible spreaders or expanders a for asimilar purpose. The opposite sides of the bag member a are provided with flaps b, and at the point where the flaps I) join the bag member a are rolls 0 filled with s onges c or other suitable absorbent materia and the inner up er surface of said rolls are rovided with oles or apertures 0 and sai rolls may be formed integrally with the bag member or by means of separate pieces or parts, and the flaps b and roll members 0 are also composed of waterproof material. side flaps b are also provided with rolls or hollow receptacles b having holes or aper- The'bottom parts of the tures b on their outer sides, and said rollsror receptacles b are also filled with suitable absorbent material, and in the construction of this device the rolls or receptacles c and the rolls or receptacles b are preferably so made. that the absorbent material placedthorein may be taken out for .cleaning purposes whenever desired. The bag-shaped member a is provided at its rearward end with a pocket (1, and placed in said bag member an oblong absorbent pad e composed of sponge orany other suitable absorbent sciaterial, said pad being inclosed by a network e of fibrous material, and the form of said pad is such that the rear end thereof may, in practice, be inserted into the pocket (1, and the front thereof is preferably provided with hook members or other fastening devices e by which it may be secured to' the front end portion of the bagmember a. The rear end flap a and the front end flap a are each provided with a tab or other attaching device preferably detachably connected therewith, and these tab attaching devices f are adapted to be connected with a waistband, belt or any similar or suitable suspending device 9 adapted to be secured around the waist and provided with supplemental straps, tabs or attaching devices 9. As thus constructed it will be seen that the absorbent pad e may be form.
The use or operation will be readily understood fromthe foregoing description when taken in connection. with the accompanying drawing and the following statement thereof. The device is worn in the usual manner, and under all ordinary conditions all liquids will be caught and retained in the bagshaped member a, and the sponge or other absorbent device held by the member a. If, however, any liquids were not caught directly in or by the member a and the absorbent material therein, but should flow over or run down at the sides thereof, they would be caught by and retained in the rolls 0, and any li uids not caught by and retained in the ro s 0, would be caught by and retained in the ab:
sorbent pads or rolls 6*, and all parts of the device may be thoroughly cleansed, or
' washed, whenever necessary, be done without detaching absorbent material in the rolls 0 and b Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device of the classdescribed, comprising ,an oblong bag member open at the top and providedwith end and side flaps, sald bag member being filled with absorbent material, the bag member being also provided at the sides thereof with perforated rolls or receptacles filled with absorbent material, substantially as shown and described.
2. A device of the class described, comprising an oblong bag member open at the top and provided with end and side flaps said bag member being filled with absorbent material, the bag memberbeing also provided at the sides thereof with perforated rolls or receptacles filled with absorbent material, and the side flaps being also provided with transverse rolls or receptacles filled with absorbent material and perforated on their outer sides, substantially as shown and described.
3. A device of the class described, comprising an oblong bag member open at the top.
and provided with rear and front end flaps and with a rear end pocket, and an absorbent pad adapted to be placed in said bag member and pocket, the sides of the bag member being also provided with perforated rolls or receptacles filled with absorbent material, substantially as shown and described.
4. A device of the class described, comprising an oblong bag member open at the top and provided with rear and front end flaps and with a rear end pad adapted to be p aced in said bag member and pocket, the sides of the bag member being also provided with perforated rolls or receptacles filled with absorbent material, and the sides of said bag member being also provided with depending flaps having transversely arranged rolls or receptacles perforated on their outer sides and filled with absorbent material, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention Ihave signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses. this 13th day of January, 1906. I
