Description
UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELIZABETH PARKER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CATAIVI ENIAL SACK.
SPECIFICATION forlrlving` part 0f Letters Patent N0. 595,861, dated December 21, 1897. Application filed December 7, 1896. Serial No. 614,775. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELIZABETH PARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Catamenial Sacks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has reference to a novel construction in a catamenial sack, the object being to provide a convenient and cleanly de- Vice of this character.
The invention consists in the features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of a catamenial sack and supporting-belt constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is longitudinal section of the sack. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the sack.
Referring now to said drawings, 1 indicates the sack, provided at its ends with extensions 2. The said sack and extensions are preferably made of oiled silk or muslin, while the extensions 2 are lined with silk or other soft material, as shown at 3. The upper edges of the sack are provided with an elastic band 4, preferably situated within a hein 5 of said sack. The bottom of the sack is provided with two elastic loops 6, that serve to hold an absorbent pad '7. The said pad consists of a flat piece of sponge fitting within the bottom of the sack. The sack is held in place when worn by means of a waist-belt 8, to which are secured depending straps 9, having fastening devices, so that they can be readily attached to and removed from the ends of the extensions 2 of the sack. The belt and straps are provided with the usual buckles and are of elastic material, so that they readily conform to the motions of the bodyT and allow a free movement thereof.
A device of this kind it will be seen is cleanly and healthy and is especially useful in traveling. Itis economical and promotes comfort and requires but two pads or Sponges, which can be readily interchanged and cleaned.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A sack consisting of a single thickness of thin waterproof material having tapered extensions at the ends thereof, a soft fabric lining on the inner faces of said extensions, hems along the opposite edges of the sack and extending over the edges of the soft lining, an elastic band located within the hems, elastic loops secured at their opposite ends along said hems, an absorbent pad secured bysaid loops, anda belt provided with straps designed to be detachably secured to the tapered extensions of thesack, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
ELIZABETH PARKER.
