INSTRUMENT FOR INI-IALING POWDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 8,813, dated March 16, 1852.
T0 alljwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRA VARREN, of Boston, inthe county of Suiolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful instrument which I call a Powder- Inhaler, with which to inhale certain medicinal powders, &c., into the `throat `and lungs, and that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, hereinafter referred to, forms `a full and eXactspecication of 4the same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principles of my said invention by which it may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desireto have secured to me by Letters Patent.

My instrument or powder inhaler is designed for the purpose of inhaling medicine into the throat and lungs, and, at the same time, to prevent any of the said medicine from lodging in the mouth.

Having thus described my powder :inhaler I shall state my claim as follows What I claim as my invention and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent is- The instrument above described for inhaling powder &c. into the throat and lungs,
the said instrument consisting of a receiver with holes in its bulb or end, covered by,
and working loosely in, an exterior tube, which prevents any of the medicine from lodging in the mout-h, substantially as above described.
