DEVICE FOR CURING IN GBOWING TOE-NAILS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
- Patented A a-n14, 190 s.
Applicationflled. September 19, 1907. Serial No. 898,884.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES J. Fos'rnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Van Wert, in the county of Van Wert and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in .Devices for Curing Ingrowin ToeNails, of which the following is a s cc cation.
he present invention relates to mechanical means for remedying ingrowing toe nails, the same consisting of a. device for effecting lateral constriction of the nail so as to relieve the painful pressure of the edge portions upon the adjacent flesh.
The device consists of clips ada ted to be fitted to opposite edge portionsof t e ingrowin nail and a yielding connection joining said clips and constantly exerting apressure to draw the same together so as to constrict the nail and relieve the soreness incident to the abnormal pressure of the edges of the nail upon the adjacent flesh of the digit.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings.
While the inventlon may be adapted to different forms and conditions by changes in the structure andminor details without departin from the spirit or essential features thereo still the preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which: 4
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a digit or toe, showing the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line :x::z: of Fig. 1. .Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated reference characters.
The appliance clips I and a yielding connection 2. The clips 1 may be of any construction, the purpose being to provide means for making positive engagement with opposite longitudinal edge portions of the nail. The yielding connection 2 may be of any type, the purpose being to draw the clips 1 together by a constant force, so as to gradually constrict the nail and withdraw its edge portions from engagement with the adjacent portions of the 'duces the pain consists of complemental flesh, so as to relieve the ain and soreness incident to ingrowing nail? As shown, the vlelding connection 2 consists of an elastic hand. The clips 1 havehooks 3 which ongage opposite end portions of the elastic band and revent displacement thereof. Each of the c ps consists of a strip) of sheet metal having its end portions re sides to form the nail en the hooks 3 for receiving t tion 2. V
For the successful treatment of ingrowing nail, a V-shaped notch 5 is formed inthe outer end of the nail 6 and the clipsl are placed in position with the hooks engaging ent upon opposite aging hooks 4. and e yielding connecunder oppositeiedge portions of said nail, the 4 clips resting upon the nail and their hooked ends 3 being connected by the elastic bands 2, the tension of which is such as to-exert a constant and gradual force to draw the clips together and produce constriction of the nail 6, the V- haped notch 5 admitting of the separated portions of the nail being drawn together, whereby edges are withdrawn from engagement with the adjacent portions of the flesh which proand soreness.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. Means for relieving ingrowing nail, the same consisting of complemental clips each having integral hooks at opposite ends, the hooks at one end of the clips being ada ted to engage and embrace edge portions 0 the nail, and a yielding connection fitted to the hooks at the opposite ends of. the clips to constantly draw the clips together.
2. Means for relieving ingrowing nail, the same consisting of complemental clips, each clip formed of a stri of sheet meta having end portions rebent in opposite directions to form hooks, the hooksv at one end of the clips being designed to engage beneath the nail and over the edges thereof, and the other hooks projecting outward, and an elastic connection fitted to the last mentioned hooks todraw the clips together and effect constriction ofthe nail. I
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
