JAMES E. WARLIGK, OF LAGRANGE, GEORGIA.
BURGLAR-PROOF BLIND-LOCK.
Specificationof Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 21, 1908.
Application filed May 6, 1907. Serial No. 372,051.
To all whom it may concern:
-Be it known that I, JAMES E. WARLIOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lagrange, in the county of Troup and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bur lar-Proof Blind- Locks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in looks or fastenings especially for window blinds orshutters.
Objects of the invention are to provide for effectively fastening or securing the blinds or shutters against being opened from the outside, as with burglarious intent; and to carry out that end with facility and simplicity and inexpensively.
Said invention consists of certain structural features or instrumentalities substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and specifically pointed out by the claims.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention- Figure 1 is a front elevation thereof as in actual use. Fig. 2 is a transverse or horizontal section produced through Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detached perspective view of the studequipped plate-member. Fig. 4 is a like view of the latch-provided plate-member.
In the disclosure of my invention, I employ two plate- members 1 and 2 which are adapted to be suitably ap lied or secured to the meeting stiles of the blinds or shutters, one upon the outside'and the other upon the inside thereof, respectively. The platemember 1, which is the outside one, has a stud or pin 3 projecting from its inner surface, near the forward edge, adapted for insertion through the window-stile and passage through an opening 4 in the plate-member 2 lapping past the meeting edges of the two stiles and accordingly upon the stile through which passes said pin or stud, the inner free end of the latter projecting beyond the plate. Said stud or pin has a lateral slot 5 in its said projecting portion, and with said slot is designed to engage a dogor latch 6 pivoted to the inside plate-member 2 as indicated for effectively locking said stud in place against being withdrawn or retracted by the application of outside pressure or force, thus rendering the fastening or lock proof against any burglarious attempt to open the shutters. Said latch has also a lateral projection 7 for the ready application of the finger or other means thereto from the inside for conveniently disengaging said latch from said stud or pin as in opening the shutters or blinds in the usual way. It will also be noted that the meeting edges of the shutters, or their meeting stiles, are rabbeted so that said edges may lap by each other and thus guard against any attempted insertion of a thin or bladed instrument between said edges for engaging and withdrawing the latch which might possibly otherwise be effected in that way.
The device is simple, relatively inexpensive and effective for its intended purpose.
I claim 1. As an article fastener comprising a plate secured to the shutter and having an integral stud, the side of which stud is notched, and a catch pivoted to swing in a plane parallel with said plate and at right angles to the stud whereby to enter the notch inthe stud and lock the latter.
2. The combination with two shutters one having a hole therethrough, of plates secured thereto, one plate having an integral stud, a side of which is notched, and the other having an orifice adapted to be superposed over the hole in the shutter, and a catch pivoted fiat to said latter late and having an edge curved approximate y in the arc of a circle whose center is the pivot whereby the curved edge is adapted to take in the notch of the stud when the shutters are closed and the notch is in its path.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature,
in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES E. WARLIOK.
