Description
N ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLIHUS CARRETTE, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ELIZABETH M. GOODMAN, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
WINDOW-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 30, 1913.
To all whom t may concern v Be it lniown that I, ADoLPHUs CARRETTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented a new and useful Window-Lock, of which the following is a specification.
My object is to produce a simple device for locking windows so that the windows will not rattle and so that they cannot be opened from the outside Without breaking them; and my invention consists of the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a window equipped with my window locks. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary cross section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective of one of the locking dogs. F ig. 4 is a perspective of the stop used in the upper sash to be engaged by the locking dog.
' Referring to the drawings in detail; the window lock or locking dog 1 is secured to the face of the window frame 2 by a screw 3 in position to engage the upper inner corner 4 of the lower sash.
The details of the window lock 1 are-as follows: It is stamped from sheet metal and comprises the rounded head 5 having the counter-sunk screw hole 6 concentric with the rounded portion of the head 5, the dimension piece 7 extending from the head 5, and the stop piece 8 extending from the dimension piece, there being a shoulder 9 upon the lower end of the dimension piece 7 at the junction with the stop piece 8, said shoulder being slightly eccentric to the screw hole 6 and the edge 10 leading to the shoulder being rounded and the lower end 11 of the stop piece 8 being rounded.
When mounted as shown in Fig. 2 the screw 3 is slightly in front of the inner face of the lower sash, so that when the lower end of the lock is moved forwardly to a vertical position the sash will pass up and down, and so that when the lower sash is tion with the upper sash is the same as the lock 1. The parting strip or stile 12 is cut away to form a recess 18 in which the lock 2 is mounted, so that Vthe lower sash may pass upwardly by the lock 2. The stop 14 is secured to the inner face of the upper corner of the upper sash in position to be engaged by the lock 2. Y The stop 14 is stamped from sheet metal and comprises the attaching plate 15 having screw-holes 16, an oiset 17, and the arm 18. This stop is placed in position so that the lock 2 swings out of the recess 13 and the rounded corner 10 engages under the offset 17, and when the lock is pressed firmly into position, the upper sash is pressed upwardly and held from rattling and securely locked.
I claim- A window lock, consisting of two members; one member comprising a rounded head having a screw hole; a dimension piece extending from the head; a stop piece extending from the dimension piece there being a shoulder upon the lower end of the dimension piece at the junction with the stop piece, said shoulder being slightly eccentric to the screw hole and the edge leading to the shoulder being rounded and the lower end of the stop piece being rounded; and the second member comprising an attaching plate, an off-set, and an arm; the rounded corner of the first member being adapted to engage said off-set.
