Patented Dec. 24, 1907.
. Application filed July 2. 1907. Serial No. 381.852.` l
To /ZZ 'whom itmay concern.
-Be it known that I, OSCAR H. BRowN, a
citizen of the United States of America, re-
` v"wearer above the lower edge ot the collar.
Much annoyance is caused b Athe upper edge of the vest at the back of the neck ettin underneath the lower edge ofthe col ar, an binding atthis point. With comparatively high shirt collars such as are Worn today, the lower edge of the collar is liable to ride `over the top edgeof the vest and become very troublesome and annoying. It is to overcome this annoyanceAand' to provide a' simple device for holding 'the upperitedg oi the vest in proper relatlve position'fto the shirt collar that I have devised the cnstruci. tion shown in the accompanying drawings, in
which: p y
Figure 1 is a sectional view through the shirt collar, the neck band and a vest at the back, and showing my vest holder in operative position. Fig. 2 is a face view of my vest holder. Fig. 8 is a similar View of the opposite side thereof.4 Fig. 4 is a side view similar to that shown in Fig. 2 with the sliding member of the clasp in a disengagingposition. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view. Fig. 6 is a ongitudinal sectional view of the holder.
Referring to the accompanying drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral l, Fig. 1, designates an ordinary shirt collar oi the turn-down style, 2 is theneck-band of the shirt'/ to which the collar is attached by moans of thc rear collar button 3, and 4 is the upper rear neck portion of the vest.
My device may be used with any stylo of collar. The vest holder comprises a plate c having an a erture b therein to engage the shank. of the utton 3, said aperture being of a size sufficient to readily pass over the head of the button and engage the shank thereof.
l On the substantial oppositel end of theplate a to the .opening a pair of upwardly extending prongs c areprovided. A sliding member 1s provided with flanges e which -are bent 55 over the plate a and at the lower edge ef'said sliding member d an inclined pron f is provided. Secured to the holder or p ate a is a spring latch g having an angular toe'h which projects through an opening i in the holder ya, said latch being connected to the holder a by means ,of a pin or rivet The o eration of -my invention vmay be briefly escribed as follows: The prongs ,c are engaged with the material of the vest at 66 the inside near the upper edge yof the real' neck ortion thereof, as shown in Fig. 1, and the s 1ding member d is pushed down `until the prong f enters the material between .theprongs c, and the toe h of the latch is spv over the top edge of the slide d. he shan of the collar button 3 is then engaged by the aperture b in the holder a, thus holding 'the vest 'at the required hei ht toprevent the same from riding under 51e collar.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that my vest holder ma be connected to the vest at any desired olnt below the ipper. ed of the vest to -liold the upper e ge at required point relatively to the collar. Ix"80 removing the vest the holder is detached from the collar button, and the holder `pei'- mitted to remain connected to the vest.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. A vest holder comprising a stationary plate havin an aperture .therein to .engage the rear co1 ar button, upwardly extending l prongs upon the lower end of said plate, a. y sliding member provided with a prong adapt- 90 ed to engage the material between the prongs on the plate, and a spring latch for 4holding said sliding member in operative position,
y as described.
2. A vest holder comprising a member' adapted to engage a collar button, a slidin member mounted on said first mentione member and provided with a rong, and a spring latch for holding said sli ing vmember in operative osition.
3. A vest older comprising a stationary member and a sliding member mounted l thereon, prongs on said membere, a sp I In testimony whereofQI a-:my'signature latcneuredhto the stgltionary membrl-Itll I in presence of two witnesses. f l' -prov1 e Wit an ang a1' toe norma. y extending through ano ening in saidstationary 'OSCAR H BROWN' 5 member to engage t e sliding member and' Witnesses:
