CORPORATION O l? NEW YORK.
ALARM DEAD-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 29, 1907.
a nlioatiou filed August 8, 1906. Serial No. 329.719.
This invention relates to improvements in alarm locks for doors, the object being to provide in connoition with a lock a simple means for closing an ele tric alarm. circuit sltould an attempt be made to force open the locking bolt from Y outer side of the door by means of aknile blade or similar instrument.
1 will describe an alarm dead lock embodying my invention and then point out the novel leatures in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of tlZlS specii'ication in which similar cha actors of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is an inside plan oi an alarm dead lock embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a section on the line a:'.-: of l; and F i g. 3 is a l'ragmentary view showing the electric circuit closed.
Referring to t .e drawings. 1 designates a lock of sub stantially the usual construction, and a locking bolt inner side oi therein, which may l)i' operated from ti the door by the usual knob. and by means 01' a key is designed to close an electric circuit tempt be made to iorce L11 0 bolt from tie outer in the door.
Pivotally mounted on ti e bolt 2 Within 2 lockcase is a circuit closer proper. consisting of a block l engaged at one end by a projection 5 on the sliding member 3, and the opposite end tiert-ol' is designed to engage with a contact-plate 6 in electrical connection with a binding post 7 attached to tlzc frame but insuhowever, an attempt be made to move too lated therefrom as indicated at S. From t e. binding post 7 a Wire 9 extends to connection with a bindingpost; 10 extending through Wall of the lock casing but insulated t'ieretrom. From the binding-post 10 a \vire ll leads through a battery 12 and connects with one pole oi an alarm bell 13, the other pole ol' said bell being connectixd tlLrough the Wire 114 With a binding-post in electrical connection With the lock casing.
ln operation, the circuit closer device 4; is normally out of contact with the plate 6. and therefore the locking bolt may be moved inward and outward in the usual manner withoutclosing the circuit. Should bolt by inserting a blade or the like, the blade or the like will go with the sliding part 3, and by moving it inward will rock the circuit closer part i into engage ment with the plate 6, thus closing th circuit and sounding th e alarm.
Having thus described my invention 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A dead-lock having a bolt, in combination with a member movablv mounted on said bolt and adapted to be moved by a person tampering with said bolt. a spring s ating on said bolt and pre sing said member, and means for closing a circuit when said member is moved relatively to said bolt.
Z. A (lend-lock having a case. a bolt slidably mounted therein. a member mounted to slide on said bolt and prol'eetin; the side thereof. a circuit closer pivoted on said bolt and engaged by said member, and a circuit adapted to be closed by said-contact closer.
32. A dead-lock havinga sliding bolt. :1 sliding member mounted on said bolt and protecting the side thereof, a spring mounted upon said bolt and pressing said sliding lllOlllllOl'.-:l circuit'eloser adapted to be displaced by said slidingmember. and a (filCllll'. adapted to be closed by said circuit closer.
in testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
