HAIR-DRIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 30, 1907.
Application filed July 10,1906. Serial No. 325,494.
To all whom it may concern.-
the tank to each side of the recess adapted Be it known that I, CnAnLEs S. MAsoN, a to fit over the back of a chair and support citizen of the United States, residing at T0- ledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hair-Driers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hair driers, and more particularly to portable hair driers, the object being to provide a hair drier so constructed that it can be readily carried from place to place in a trunk or small package, and one which is very effective in use.
Another object of my invention is to provide means for adjusting the tank so as to suit different size persons.
With these objects in view, the invention consists in the employment of a tank adapted to be filled with hot water, having an outwardly extending horizontal portion under which a lamp is adapted to be placed, said tank having a recess in which the head is ada ted to be placed.
The invention consists also in certain details of construction hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this Figure 1 is a perspective View 0 my improved drier showing it arranged on a table. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail erspective view ofa portion of the tank. ig. l is a side view of a modification.
In the drawing A indicates a sheet metal tank having a horizontal outwardly extendingportion A, to one end of which adjacent each side are secured bearings B, in which the end of the frame B, are pivoted which are provided with a rod B having an angle end adapted to fit in a socket C, secured to the under side of the portion A adjacent the tank and support the extending portion A level with the tank, when placed on a table. The end of the tank is provided with a concaved recess D, having a fluted rear wall D, so as to allow the steam rising from the hair to escape. Secured in the recess along the edge of the same is a strip of felt E adapted to form a ad for the head and prevent the head from eing burnt when placed therein.
A recess F is formed in the side edge of the tank in which the head is adapted to be placed so that the back of the hair not dried in the front recess can be thoroughly dried. Hook-members G are secured on the end of the same when a table cannot be had. A threaded opening H is formed in the tank through which the tank is adapted to be filled with hot water and is closed by a plug H. The bottom of the tank is formed with a recess in which is pivoted an arm I carrying a frame I adapted to engage the bottom of the tank and elevate the tank so that it can be adjusted to suit a taller person. A socket J is secured midway under the portion A so that theangle end of the rod B can be secured therein, so as to hold the extended portion level with the tank when it is elevated.
A lamp K may be placed under the portion A when arranged. on a table so as to heat the water, but is removed before the head is placed in the recess, so as to prevent all danger of the hair catching on fire.
In the modification in Fig. 4 I have shown a serrated tank L mounted on a stand M provided with an arm M, adapted to fit in a socket secured under the extending portion of the tank and supports the same.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that by filling the tank with boiling water and placing the head in the recess and spreading the hair out over the shelf, it will be dried very quickly without any danger of burning or scorching the same.
Ilaving thus fully described my invention," what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A hair drier comprising a tank adapted to hold water having an outwardly projecting portion, and a recess formed in said tank adapted to receive the head, for the purpose described.
2. A hair drier comprising a closed tank having a recess formed in one end, and an outwardly projecting portion provided with supporting members, and a lamp adapted. to be placed under said portion, for the purpose described.
A hair drier comprising a tank adapted to hold water having an outwardly projecting hollow portion, a supporting member secured to said portion, a recess formed in one end of said tank, and a strip of felt secured in said recess, for the purpose set forth.
4. A hair drier comprising a tank having a recess formed in one end having a fluted rear wall, a strip of felt arranged in said recess and hook members secured to the tank on each side ofthe recess, for the purpose set forth.
5. A hair drier comprising a tank having a recess formed in its end and another in its side, an outwardly projecting portion formed on said tank provided With bearings, a frame pivoted in said bearings provided With a rod, and a socket secured on said portion adapted to receive the end of said rod, for the purpose described.
6. A hair drier comprising a tank having a recessed bottom and an outwardly extending portion, an arm pivoted in said recess carrying a frame sockets secured to the underside of the outwardly extending portion of the tank, and a frame pivoted to the extending portion provided with a rod adapted to fit in either of said sockets, for the purpose set' forth.
