TOBACCO PIPE. APPLICATION FILED NO V. 3, 1906.
w M w GEORGE BOSTON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TOBACCO-PIPE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 5, 1907.
Application filed November 3 1906. Serial No. 341.873.
T0 (ti/Z 7117710711 it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE BosToN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Pipes, of which the iollowing is a specification.
This invention is a device for attachment to smoking-pipes, and designed to prevent tobacco from being drawn into the stem and also to clean out the bowl when desired.
A feature of the device is that it is adjustable, so that it will fit a pipe oi any ordinary slze.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- I Figure 1 is a sectional view oi the pipe with the deviceapplied thereto; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device detached.
The pipe is indicated at 6. The attachment comprises a perforated plate or disk 7 of proper size and shape to fit in the bottom of the bowl oi the pipe, and this is attached to a shank 8, which is slotted lengthwise, as at 9. This shank'section 8 is connected to an upper shank section or member 10, the connection being slidable, produced by means of a tongue 11 at the lower end of the member 10, which tongue is bent into or through the slot 9 and tongues 12 at the upper end of the member 8 on opposite side edges thereof,
which tongues are bent around the edges of the slide 10. Said slide has a curl 13 at the top, which can be engaged over the rim of the bowl, as shown in Fig. 3.
The device is made of thin sheet metal and is adjusted by placing the same within the bowl of the pipe and pressing the perforated plate into contact with the bottom of the bowl and engaging the hook 18 over the rim of the bowl. The slidable connection of the shank-sections allows the same to be adjusted to fit a bowl of any ordinary depth. The perforated plate will prevent tobacco or ashes being drawn into the stem of the pipe, and the pipe can be cleaned without lilting or removing the pipe by means of the shank.
An attachment for a tobacco-pipe, consisting oi a perforated disk having a slotted shank member secured thereto, and a sliding shank member having a tongue at its lower end which extends through the slot, and a hook at its upper end adapted to engage over the rim of the bowl of the pipe.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' GEORGE BOSTON.
