PIPE CLEANER.

Be it known that I, EMIL SoMMEnrmp'r, a citizen of Germany, residing at Minneapo lis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to devices for cleaning and scraping the inside of smoking pipe bowls and has as its principal object to provide an eflicicnt scraping disc having hard edges formed to present diverse curves to suit the varying diameters of pipe bowls, together with a flattened edge to remove any accumulations on the flat edge of the bowl, all of these edges being sharply defined.

Another purpose is to produce an implement which, in addition to the main scraping element, includes a spoon shaped device and a thin and narrow element suited to enter the elbow portion of the pipe to clean the same.

A further aim is in the provision of an implement having several extending elements, all being pivotally secured together at one end and suited to be carried in the pocket.

These several objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the annexed drawing, forming part hereof, and in which 2- Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an embodiment of the device, illustrating its application.

Referring more in detail to the drawing, the numeral 10 designates in general the bowl of a conventional smoking pipe having an elbow-like extending integral stem 11 in which is screwed the mouth piece 12.

The cleaning implement consists of several cleaning tools, each having flat, approximately circular hubs respectively 14:, I5 and 16 containing central openings to receive a tubular rivet 17, its opposite flanged ends 18 acting to frictionally clamp these hubs upon the barren of the rivet. The

edge view of the same as spring through said rivet may be used to support the implement, it being conveniently engaged with any small projection.-

Formed on the hub 1 is a slender needle or rod 19, gradually tapering towards its point and adapted to be inserted in the portion 11 of the pipe to loosen the accumulations so that they can be readily removed.

On the hub 15 is a stem 20, of greater length than the other elements, and having rigidly affixed at its outer end, a. flat plate or disc 21, preferably of hardened steel, presenting a straight edge 22 suited to scrape the upper surface of a pipe bowl, removing the encrustations.

A. curved edge 23 of a relatively large radius is joined by a smaller curve 2 1 with the curve 25 which is of mean radius as can be seen best in Figure 6.

Thus curves suited to various shapes and diameters of bowls are provided and any of the several sharp scraping edges may be utilized at will by actuating the stem 20 in the manner of a hoe.

A spoon 26 is connected by the stems 27 with the hub 16, thus completing the set of tools.

In place of the tubular rivet, these several hubs may be united by asolid rivet 28 as illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, the remainder of the implement being as above described.

Figure 5 shows a modification in that a spoon 30 is provided with hard sharp edges, its curved outline being used as a scraper when the handle 31 is properly operated.

The hubbed portion 32 is imperforate, but at its juncture with the stem, a rivet 33 p-iv otally connects a needle 34 of the same charactor as the needle 19.

The method of use of this implement is believed apparent to all who use smoking pipes and thus, having described my inven tion, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A pipe bowl scraper comprising a handle having rigidly fixed at one end a hardened steel scraper plate said plate having a straight edged portion and a curved portion, said curved portion being composed of a plurality of arcs of different radii which arcs blend into each other to form a smooth curve.
