Description

E. WOHLGEMUTH.
CURTAIN PROTECT-0R. APPLICATION FILED 1020.18. 1905.
v I I 34 1526 5 Q 4 /IZV6IZ far:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMIL WOHLGEMUTH, OF THUM, GERMANY.
' CURTAIN-PROTECTOR.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMIL WOHLGEMUTH, merchant, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Thum, in the Kingdom of Saxony, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtam-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to curtain-protectors; and it has for its object to provide a device of this nature which may be so attached to the window that on opening the latter the curtain is prevented from coming in contact with the upper corner of the window-wings, so that injury to the curtain caused by the sharp corner rubbing against the curtain is practically impossible. The contrivance devised for this purpose consists, mainly, in a bow or the like adapted to be fixed on the window-wing.
In the accompanying drawings one embodiment of the present invention is shown, like letters of reference indicating like parts in the several views. t
Figure 1 is an elevation of a window either wing of which is fitted with a device according to the present invention. Fig. 2 shows, on an enlarged scale and partly in section, a plan view of the upper corner of a wing provided with the said device; and Fig. 3 illustrates the mode of action of the protector.
According to the constructional form drawn the protector consists of a bow a, Fig. 2, the ends of which are connected to a suitably-shaped metal piece I), secured to the upper corner of the window-wing c by suitable meansfor instance, screws d, shown in dotted lines-a number of balls e being loosely fitted on the bow a. For this purpose each ball has a central bore f, through which the bow extends.
Referring to Fig. 3, it will be seen that whenever the wing c is opened in the direction of the arrow the protector will come against the curtain g and on the wing becoming further opened slide along the cur- Specification of Letters Patent.

tain, its balls 6 moving freely on the bow a, so as to prevent any likelihood of the curtain becoming injured. In this way a certain distance between curtain and wing is constantly maintained, so that the window-wing may be freely moved to and fro without there being any danger of the curtain tearing or becoming otherwise injured by the corner of the wing.
In practice it may be of advantage to fit either wing of the window with such a protector. The general arrangement in this case is shown in Fig. 1.
The described curtain-protector can be applied in the most convenient manner to every window and be unfastened as easily, and it does not occupy any space worth mentioning, so that it is a contrivance of high practical importance.
It is to be understood that modifications of the specific construction shown may be made and any suitable materials or proportions be used in the various parts without departing from the spirit of the invention. For instance, instead of the balls 6 any other suitable devices may be substituted and any suitable shape be given to the bow at.
What is claimed is r 1. In a curtain-protector, the combination of. a bow with means to fix it on the window, substantially as described.
2. In a curtain-protector, the combination of a bow, means adapted to freely rotate on such bow, and means to fix the latter on the Window, substantially as described.
3. I11 a curtain-protector, the combination of a bow, a number of balls fitted loosely on such bow, and means to fix the latter on the window, substantially as described.
In witnesswhereof I have hereunto signed my name, this 2d day of June, 1905, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMIL WOHLGEMUTH.
