Be 1t known that I, JAMES H. HUNT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Massillon, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Razor-Blade Holder, of which theV following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The purpose of the invention is to provide a device for holding razors or like blades during` stropping or honing, beingparticularly adapted for use in connection with the blades of safety-razors, and to so construct the device that it will be simple, durable, and economic and so that it can be conveniently opened and closed and otherwise operated by one hand.

Another purpose of the invention is to simplify and render more effective the construction set forth in my improvement in holders for safety-razors, filed May 16, 1905, Serial No. 260,686, and allowed July 13, 1905.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set-forth, and pointed out in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming` a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the iigures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved razor-blade holder. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section through the same, and Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section taken substantially on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.

The body of the device consists of two sections A and B, adapted to lie one upon the other, the two sections being substantially the same in general contour. The section A comprises a handle member 11 and a carrying member 10, and the section B consists of a correspondinghandle member 11a and a corresponding carrying member 10a. The two sections A and B are each made, preferably, from a single piece of light material, such as wood, although metal may be employed, if desired.

The upper face of the handle member 11 of the section A and the lower face of the handle member 11L of the section B are straight, and the upper face of the carrying member 10 of the upper section A tapers from its connection with the handle member 11 downward and outward, while the under face of the carrying member 10a of the section B is inclined from its junction with its handle member outwardly and upwardly, so that at the eX- treme outer edge of the carrying members very thin jaws 13 are provided, adapted to grip between them the body portion of a razor-blade 14, the beveled edge 15 of which blade extends beyond the outer edges of the jaws 13.

The inner faces 12 of the carrying members 10 and 10":L of both sections A and B are flat or straight, as is clearly shown in 2, and while the outer or upper faces 15 of the handle member of the section A and the outer or under face 16 of the handle member of the section B are straight the inner face`17 of the handle member 11 and the inner face 18 of the handle member 1 1tl incline in opposite directions, one upwardly and the other downwardly, so that there is considerable space between them where they connect with the carrying members 10 and 10a, forming thereby a fulcrum 19 at the inner faces of the sections where their members connect, as is also clearly shown in Fig. 2.

In addition to the two sections A and B a clamping-section O is employed, and this section is in the nature of an elastic loop, rubber being referably used, and said loop is passed over tfie jaws 13 of the two sections A and B and slightly back of their forward or outer edges. The said clamping-section C tends to firmly hold the jaws 13 together or in clamping relation to the blade placed between them; but if the blade is to be released from the jaws or the jaws are to be opened to receive the blade it is simply necessary to carry the handle members in direction of each other, whereupon as they close on each other the jaws open, and after the blade has been taken out or a blade has been introduced between the jaws upon relieving the handle members from inward pressure the clamping-section C immediately asserts itself to close the jaws 13.

` Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A razor-blade holder, comprising` a plurality of superimposed plates, each comprising a relatively wide carrying member, and a relatively narrow handle member, the proximate faces of the handle members diverging from I oo each other vand the remote faces being sub stantially parallel When the blades are in superimposed relation7 and the opposite faces of the respective carrying members converging at the ends of said members, and an elastio band encircling the carrying members adjacent to the outer end thereof.
