Description

J. P. CRUISE. RAZOR BLADE HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. 23, I920.-
Patentedsepfi. 27, 1921.
.ZYLVBHZZr:
UNITED STATES lrosnrnr. CRUISE, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
RAZOR-BLADE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept, 2'7, 1921,
Application filed October 23, 1920. Serial No. 418,962.
To all to ham it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrrr P. CRUISE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Razor-Blade Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to razor blade holders and more particularly to a device for holding the conventional form of razor blades for the ping the same. v I
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a convenient holder into WhlCh one of the razor blades may be placed whereupon a suitable mechanism may be operated for effecting a tight grip of the holder on the blade so that it will be rigidly held to perform the stropping or honing operation.
Another object of the invention is to provide a yieldable spring holder which will include mechanism adapted to actuate the gripping jaws so that a tight grip may be exerted on the blade while it is being honed or stropped.
Other objects of the invention will appear upon consideration of the following description and accompanying drawings, where1n:-
Figure 1 is a side elevation,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section,
Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, showing the mechanism on a large scale to more clearly disclose the essential features, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the elements included in the invention.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, the holder comprises a handle 1 which is preferably formed of metaland which has arranged at one end the blade holder 2. The blade holder consists of two spring plates 3 and 4 of a size to conveniently grip the razor blade 5. As shown in Fig. 3, the gripping plates 3 and 4 are slightly curved and are somewhat tapered so that the desired resiliency will be obtained. The two plates 3 and 4 are connected by a transverse bearing plate 6 which is somewhat thicker than the thickness of the gripping plates 3 and 4 to give thedesired rlgidity to the holder. ;A central opening 7 in the portion 6 permits a screw threaded stem or bolt 8 to be extended into the space between the two gripping plates 3 and 4. Attached to the inner surface of each gripping plate is purpose of honing and stropand the screw threaded bolt 8 is extended through an opening 13 in the top of the yoke member. A thumb nut 14 is then screw threadedly mounted on the extended end of the bolt as shown in the drawings and it will be noted that the gripping portions of the clamp plates 3 and 4 extend along the entire length of the blade 5 so as to effectively grip the same.
In operation, a blade will be placed between the gripping plates 3 and 4 whereupon the thumb nut will be turned upon the screw threaded shank of the bolt to draw the bolt upwardly through the opening 7 thus causing the two arms 9 and 10 to draw the gripping plates 3 and 4 toward each other whereby the gripping ends of the plates may rigidly and firmly clamp against the opposite surfaces of the blade and thereby firmly hold it in position so that the device may be used to strop one end of the blade. 7
Minor changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
What is claimed is 1. A razor blade holder comprising a handle, gripping plates carried by the hendle, each comprising a curved member having a resiliency whereby the gripping portions of the plates tend to spring toward each other, a manually operated screw extending into the space between the said gripping plates, and means carried by the screw and connected to the plates whereby the said gripping plates may be drawn toward each other when the screw is manually operated to b drawn outwardly of the space between the said plates.
2. A razor blade holder comprising a handle, a bearing plate carried by the handle, a pair of gripping plates carried by the bearing plate and havin their gripping portions in close rox lll y, a QI bo t adapted to be adjusted through the bearing plate, and means carried by th screw bolt and connected to the gripping plates whereby the latter will be drawn toward each other when the screw is adjusted outwardly throu h the said bearing plate.
3. K razor blade holder comprising a pair of curved gripping plates, a bearing plate holding the connected ends of the gripping plates in spaced relation, a yoke member connected to the inner surfaces of the said gripping plates, and means mounted in the bearing plate and connected to the said yoke whereby the said means may be, manually opera ed, to; ausing the y to exert a pull on the inner surfaces of the gripping plates to draw them toward each other for fect ng a tig t grip n he razor b 4. A razor blade holder comprising a bearing plate, a screw mounted in the bear-- ing plate and provided with a thumb nut, a yoke member carried by the inner end of the screw, a pair of curved resilient plates,
the said yoke. member being connected to V the inner surfaces of the plates, whereby the said yoke may exert a pull on the plates when the said thumb nut is adjusted on the screw.
5. A razor blade holder comprising a v handle having a bearing plate at one end,
an adjusting screw mounted in the bearing plate and provided with a thumb nut on its screw threaded end to engage the said bearing plate, a yokeacarried by the inner end of the said bolt and provided with parallel arms, a pair of resilient gripping plates carriedby the bearing plate, and havingthe said yoke arms connected thereto, whereby the gripping plates may be. drawn toward each other whenthe said thumb nut is op; erated on the screw to. draw, the, lattereutwardly through th said bearing plate,
In testimony whereof I have'afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
