. ments, of which the following is a specification,
reference being had therein to the accompanyingdrawings'. A l My'invention relates yto an improvement in union knitted undergarments or union suits; and I declare that the following is afulLclear,
concise, and exact description thereof suffi-` -cient to enable one skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters and numbers refer to like parts throughout.
My invention discloses a union suit pro- .vided with new andnovel means of construction for providing'full'nessin the seat lof the garment without involving the duplication of after the garment has been used. At the same time the parts are so constructed and arranged as to provide protection mevery attitude of the wearer with n o. unnecessaryaperture.
Referring to the drawings-'Figure 1 illus'- trates a rear view of a portion of a union suit,
showing the cut made in the garment before the ilap or closure is attached. Fig. 2 repre sents the flap. Ifig. 3 is the same as Fig. l with the flap in place. FigQ/i is a side view of one-half of the garment. Referring to the drawings more particu-l larly, A represents the body ofthe garment. lB represents the ila or closure. On the back of the garment s ightly below the waistline is a reinforced portion C, on which buttons are secured by which to fasten fthe flap 'in (position. The reinforcement may be e in any suitable manner and is in `the general shape illustrated, so as to provide for lowering the buttons and Acorrespondingly the adjustment of the ilap';
Atabout the lower portion of th'e seat and' in the `back of thegarment I make .a trans- `verse cut turned upward ati-the ends, as
shown by line 1 1a,'which leaxesja skirt por ggf'tionin the rear,` as shown'inllig. .1. .The
Yinner seam of each leg.
`depending portions oi' the flapmay be gov-` 'othermargin of the" opening formed bythe I Acut extendsfrom point 1 -along the. line-.2..4 to
the inner' seam ofthe leg at point 3, whence the opening continues down the seam asuit-- able'distance and' then upwardto the crotch 4,- and it then goes down the seam" of the Iother leg andu again to theopposite point 3 and along thell' In Fig. 1 the lines 1 3 and 1a 3'EL represent De 2 t0 .the opposite pointV 11. .i i
the distance from the'end of the cutV to the l inner leg-seam and before the seam has been o ened and the parts spreadfas. they, are
s ownin that figure, so thatthat distance on each side is longerthan ,appears-in Fig. 1, where the leg-'seamshasubeen cut and the parts spread. lThe line 1 1a extend's'substantially across thei full width of the' garmentv It will Ialso beseen that I have not interfered with theelasticity. of the garment, because the reinforced portion C covers a lsmall portion of the back, leaving the front-portions and other .portionsof the back tobe freestretch'ed. It will alsobe seen that the opening ofthe inner seam extends for a distance, so as to provide for thefneeded enlarging in that part. In Fig. 2 I illustrate theilap B, which is intended to .cover the 'space between 1 and 1EL and providing the desired fullness. 1
From that transverse line the sides converge upwardly to where they are rovided with buttonholes afa, suitably provided in the uper transverse edge ofthe flap. From the ower portion of the flap there depends the angular extensions or gores 5 and 5,"which 'are provided to'fit in the opened arts ofthe The wi th of these erned by circumstances, according to the fullness it is desired togive the zgarmentre sulting in a corresponding enlargement of the thigh portion of the garment and providing `also for am le fullness in the .rear of the garment and tlie flap. The skirt portieriv of the garment proper Vwill readily yield to stretching, since the edge is not confined by over- ICU stitching, and the fia or closure B being provided with ample fu lness permits the great' est freedom and comfortk to the wearer, at the .same time giving full protection:
jInj attaching theflap point, G of the flap is attached to the garment just outside of the point 1 and the point G just outside of the point l, From the point 6 the flap vis stitched to edge 1 2 andthe flap and the gar ment are joined to thepoint 3 down to the point7, to 4, to 7, to 3a, to 2, and 1% The IIO manner of attachingthe iiapl to thegarmjent' is illustrated in Eig. `3, Where the heavy lines f edge,.neans for'rern'ovabl securing the indicate the outline ofthe flap vand the dotted 1`.
