IMDRWEMENT 1N TATTING-sEUTTLEs`.l

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that we, IEA H. STOOKWELL and Lizzie C. GOODWIN, of Worcester, in the county of Worcester, and State ofMassachusetts, have invented a new andrmproved 'Batting-Shuttle; and we do hereby declare that 1 the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and .use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,`forming part of this specification.

This invention relates to the construction of an article called a shuttle, which is extensively used by females in fabricating what is known as tat'tingJ (afkind of trimming or edging for female under garments.)

And the invention consists in forming the shuttle with a stationary point, end with an elongated stud or stand, as will be hereinafter more fully described. v

Figure 1 isa longitudinal section of the shuttle, showing the part on which the' point is formed, and also the form and position of the stud, by which the two parts of the shuttle are united. a."

Upon the part A there is a point, D, formed, which, in the process of tatting,is extremely useful in separating the threads of the work. y v

The stud C is formed of a curved piece of metal, with rounded or semicircular ends, as seen at e, around which the thread to'be used, in tattng is wound. I i

This' stud or curved piece, C, is soldered or otherwise confined to the vparts A and B, as seen in iig. 2.

The leaves or Aparts A and B arermadeof any suitable sheet metal, and being thus united form a light and convenient shuttle, and, as combined with the point D, a greatly-improved article for ladies use is obtained.

Having thus described our invention, we claim-as nemend desire t'o secure by Letters Patenti As anew article of manufacture, a tatting-shuttle, havingone of the endsofoneof its sides sharpened to or provided with a point, substantially as and forthc purpose specified IRA II.
