Description

N0. 804,406. PATENTED NOV. 14,1905.

FINGER SHIELD APPLICATION FILED MAE.7,1905.
moRew n mwmn co PHO'QLHHUGRAPMEHS, wwmucvo n c.
Nrrn s'rA PTENT l Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 14, 1905.
Application filed March 7, 1905. Serial No. 243.815.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DAISY HUNGAD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Finger-Shields, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a shield or guard for the first joint of the middle finger and is designed especially for the use of parties tying parcels.
It is common for clerks in stores to wrap twine about the first joint of the middle finger when tying up a bundle and break the twine by a quick jerk of the hand, and this practice results in sore or calloused joints, causing more or less pain and discomfort.
The object of my device is to provide a shield to protect this joint and at the same time to leave the tip of the finger free.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, shown in the drawings, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view showing the practical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the device with a flap for advertisements added. Fig. 3 is a modified form of band. Fig. L is a detail view showing a modified manner of connecting a ring.
In the drawings, A represents a wristband having at its ends coacting fastener members A and A a plurality of members A being employed to permit adjustment of the band to wrists of various sizes. To the band are connected two straps B, which are adapted in use to rest on the back of the hand and converge to a point adjacent the base of the middle finger, the band and straps forming a triangle having the apex pointing along the line of the said finger, and to the apex of this triangle is secured an end of a strip 0, of flexible material, adapted to rest on the finger and extend approximately to the finger-tip. Intermediate its ends the strip 0 carries a ring D, adapted to encircle the finger adjacent its base, and at its outer end the strip carries a shield or sleeve E, adapted to fit upon the finger and cover the same from the fingernail to the first joint, and this sleeve I prefer to make of leather.
In Fig. 2 I have shown a triangular-shaped plate B, carried by the straps B and band A, and which may be of leather or celluloid or other suitable substance and may have advertising matter imprinted thereon.
In Fig. 3 I have shown a modified form of wristband. The band F shown in this figure may be of an elastic material, thereby dispensing with the fastening device A and A, and strips of material F may be secured upon the band and similar strips F onthe straps B, carrying advertising material.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a slight modification in which the strip 0', corresponding to the strip C, is formed of a plurality of strips secured together, and the ring D is secured between two of them.
The manner of using the device and its advantages will be obvious.
Any flexible material may be employed in making the band, straps, and strip.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a band adapted to encircle the wrist, straps secured thereto and converging to a common point, a strip of flexible material connected to the straps at their point of juncture, a ring connected to the strip, and a sleeve carried by the outer end of the strip.
2. The combination with a wristband, straps connected at one end to the band and at their other ends to each other, a plate adapted to bear imprinted matter carried by the straps,
, a flexible strip connected to the meeting ends of the straps, and a leather shield carried by the free end of the strip.
DAISY HUNGAD.
