Be it known that I, ELLEN E. IVINPENNY, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Paper Cuspidors, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a paper cuspidor for use in hospitals and other 'analogous places; and the primary object of the same is to provide a device of this class of an inexpensive nature which may be destroyed or burned after use and replaced by another, thereby avoiding the transmission ofdiseases by allowing the expectorated material of one person to stand for considerable length of time in a hospital dormitory or apartment.

A further object of the invention is to provide a cuspidor formed of paper which may be collapsed in compact form and afterward drawn up into shape for use.

With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure lis a top plan view oi' a cuspidor embodying the features of the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section thereof on the line 2 2, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is an enlarged section in detail. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the improved cuspidor shown elevated for use.

Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several Views.

The numeral l designates a comparatively stiff paper bottom, to which is secured the lower edge of a thinner paper body 2, having a bellows fold 8. The upper edge of the body is rebent over the lower portion of the latter to provide a guard-ange 4, and to stiften the body at intervals or reinforce the same to resist easy tearing tendencies paper strips are secured thereove-r at regular intervals and extend fully from the flange 4 and downwardly over the inner and outer sides of the body to the bottom l'. f The guard-flange 4 is annular and has a central opening 6 to render the interior of the body accessible.

It is proposed at times to form the improved cuspidor of moisture-prooi paper and also to vary the proportions and dimensions of the same. By .having the cuspidor collapsible a great number can be stored in a small space, and,moreover, after the cuspidor has been used it can be readily burned or otherwise destroyed to obviate any tendency toward infection.

Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is'- A sanitary cuspidor, comprising a comparatively stili bottom, a body secured to said bottom having a bellows fold, the upper part of the body being extended inwardly beyond the fold and then outwardly to provide a top flat guard-flange, the said ange having its perimeter projected outwardly beyond the body of the cuspidor when the parts are arranged for use, said body and guard-liange being provided with radially-disposed reinforce-strips at regular intervals, the said strips being collapsible with the body.
