FmEL'ESS COOKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
-EPatented March 1o, 1909.-
Application filed July '20, 1908'. Serial no. 44-135 5.
' T all whom it may concern:
tion sufficient to enable those skilled in t 1ev art to which it pertains to understand, make, and use the same.
This invention relates to what are known in the art as fireloss cookers, and the objects of the invention are to obtain a device which will be effective in' operation, sanitary, economical in construction, sightly in appearance, and durable; to obtain a device of the kind named which is reversible, that is, a device provided with a base on which the vessels containing the articles to be cooked may beplaced and the remainder of thedes vice laced thereover, and also, a device in whici the vessels containing articles to be cooked maybe placed and a cover placed thereover.
A further object of the invention is to obtain a device from which no appreciable odor will escape when onions, and other like articles are being cooked therein.
In the drawing referred to Figure 1 illus- Qtrates a device embodying the invention, in vertical section, when used in such manner as to have a base-on which vesselsmay be set' and a body which may. be placed thereover. Fig. 2 illustrates ti e same construction illustrated in Fig. 1 w on used with the body of the device in position to'forrn a receptacle in which vessels may be placed and the remainder of such device being placed thereon to form acover to'the receptacle. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on line 33 of Fig. 1, viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows. And Fig. 4 is a top plan view of a device embodying theinvention. P
A reference letter applied to designate a given art is used to indicate such part throughout the several figures of the drawing, Whereverthe same appears.
A is the body art or portion of the device, B is a part of t e device arranged to co-act with body art A, and constitutes a base on which the ody part A is placed, when the device is used in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1, and a cover to the body part A, when l the device is used in the manner illustrated inaFi 2. The body art A com rises the. cylin rical portion a, c osed at on a, suitable aching 6'] between the walls of the cyl n n l and n port o s, n the. edg a at the open end .of such cylindrical por tion. Edge 0/ is provided with the annular groove-C.
. The part or portion of the device which at times constitutes, the base on which vessels,
tacle in which vessels are placed, is conconstructed embodying this invention 1 have 'made the annular groove (1 1n the part B, so
illustratedin Figs. 1' and 3., a raisedplatforni whioh' water may: he placed heferesetting the body part A thereto.
The head D is arranged-to contact on the sides thereof with the sides of the groove-Q, but preferably the topof such bead does not groove, so that when the device is used in the; manner illustrated in Fig. 2-, the water which has been placed in such groove 0 bebead D in such groove, will not all be forced out from such groove, but some of such water will rema n in the groove. Water in will prevent odors passing out from the interior of the device ,while articlesare cooki erein E is a mat, preferably made of wire, which I is placed on part B when the devioeis used in the manner illustrated. in Figs. 1 and 3. I find in practicethat whenthe mat Eis with many interstices, an appreciable effect .is obtained, and that the heat is maintained ,for a given length of time at a higher temperature than when such mat Is not used. I attribute this increased effectiveness to the lessening of the conduction of heat from the i cooking vessel through part B by the interposition of said mat, constructed as described, between such vessel and such part B.
F is a belt of flexible material fitting to the cylindrical walls of the device and arranged to be placed over the joint produced ng position.
structed'with the annular beadD arranged. to fit into and co-Jact with the annular groove- C. In the devices which I have'heretofore.
that when the dev oe is used in the manner (b will be obtained, and also achannel in om nt c nta t h he bo om h fore thepart B is placed on part A, with the annular groove d, or in annular groove C,
are placed and at times the cover to a recepe made of coiled Wire or of metal provided by ppttingthe parts A and B,.into operative coo Where the device is made of small size .it
made in large sizes it will be found con-' venient to use the device in the manner shown in Fig. '2.- The strength of the person using the device will often determine the manner of its use.
The operation of this device is substantially the same as that of other fireless cookers, to-wit, the article to be cooked, in a heated condition and in a suitable vessel is placed in the interior of the device, the device is closed, and allowed to remain in such closed condition until the cooking is accomplished.
By constructing the edge a. of the body partA with an annular groove C, and the part B with the bead D to corres end with such groove 0, I find great rigidity is imparted to the parts, and. a device of considerable size may be constructed with the certainty that a tight joint will be made at all times in the use of the same, and the same will be durable.
The walls of the part A, at, the ends thereof which I have termed edge'a, are joined by a sheet metal ring which is formed or stamped up'to obtain the groove C; and the co-actin part, attached to part B and provided wlth bead D, is obtained in the same way. These parts may be op ositely placed,
that is, the part provided wit 1 groove C may;
be attached to )art B and the co-acting part which is provided with the bead D may be attached to end a.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the character described, a
additional part provided with an annular bead arranged to co-act with the annular groove, and provided with an annular groove, such grooves arranged so that one thereof may contain water when the body part and the additional part are joined; substantially as described.
2. In a device of the character described, a body part closed at one end and openjat the otherend, such cylindrical art comprising an-inner and outer wall, witli bad heat c'onducting material disposed between them, and
such walls connected at the open end of the cylindrical body art by a ring which is curved on radial lines to obtain an annular roove on the edge of the open end, in combination with an additional part, such additional part provided with an annular bead arranged to co-act with the annular groove,
ann ar groove adjacent to such bed, such grooves arranged so that one thereof may contain water when the body part and the additional part are joined; substantially as described.
3. In a device of the character described, a body part closed at one end and open at the other end, such cylindrical art comprising an inner and outer wall, witii bad heat conducting material disposed between them, and
such walls connected at the open end of the cylindrical body art by a ring which is curved on radial lines to obtain an annular groove on the edge of the 0 en end, in combination withan additiona part, such additional part provided with an annular bead arranged to co-act with the annular groove,
and provided with a raised bed and anannular groove adjacent to the raised bed, such grooves respectively arranged so that one thereof may contain water when the body part and the additional part are joined with the body part underneath, and the other may contain water when the cover is underneath, and a mat provided with interstices arranged to be interposed between such de vice and a vessel therein; substantially as described.
