Description
EISEN W. KEYESQOF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
Leaeee Peten Ne. 75,767, dated Maren 24, 186s:
Torrano TOY-GUN.
@Ligt etlgetnle nitriet infin tigen ittmi, ttmt mit mating gmt uf tte time.
To ALL WHOM 1T MAY CONGERNe' Be it known `that L'EBN W. KEYES, ol' Boston, in the county of Suffolk` and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful AImprovements in Torpedo Needle-Guns; and I do hereby declare that the e follev'ving is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and tothe letters of reference marked thereon. i
The nature of 'my invention consists in attaching to one end .of a rod, which passes through a handle, and is operated by a spring, a socket or cup for holding the torpedo, and to the other end of the snrnerodV a knob or ring, which eerves as a handle for drawing the rod back; also, in combining with the same a peculiar device for holdingthe rod back against the action'ofpthe spring. g i
` To enable others skilled in the arttomake and use my'invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and use. In the drawingsfe Figure 1 is an elevation of my gun, showing in fnllliues the rod drawn back and held by the hook'K. The dotted lin'es represent the'rod snapped-out.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, butshowing therod andspring in full. e I A represents a handle, made of any suitable' material, bored out, as, shown. lThrough the handle the rod D passes, having'attached to one end the cup'B, for receiving the` torpedo, and to the other end the knob C. S
is a spring, acting against B, and reacting on ,the lower end of the cavity H. L are small pins, made fast in IIB, either one of which may'ser-Ye to hook into K, and thus'ho'ld the :lod back until it is desired to snap olf the gun, vwhich may be readily done by turning the rod slightly.
To use the'gun, the torpedo is placed in the cup B, the `rod is drawn back by the knob C. Ii' now the rod is released it will be sent violently back byl the action of the spring, and the torpedo will be projected from the cup. If desirable, the rod may be hooked hack by the pin L and hook K, to be discharged when desired, by turning the rodslightly, so that the `pin L will escape from the hoolr` t Havingthus describedV my invention, I will now proceed to set forth my claim.v
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is .e
1. Attaching to one eudiof the rod D a cup for holding `the torpedo, and to the other end a knob `or ring for pulling back the rod, operated by a spring, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. Combining with the above the pin L and hook K, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
.EBEN W. KEYES.
