SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 735,916, dated August 11, 1903.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK STANG, a citizen of the United States, residingat Burlington, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Pincushion, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to pincushions; and the object of the same is to produce a cushion which will be light in construction and cheap to manufacture.

A further object is to produce a cushion the body portion of which is hollow and constructed of a foramin'ous material, obviating the use of the customary illing,andwhich Will retain the pin or needle in position'after it has pierced the surface thereof.

To these ends my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which similar characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates, the body portion of my cushion, which is preferably convexed in form and may be constructed of any foraminous material; but I have preferably shown the same as bei-ng constructed of wiregauze.

Around the periphery of the body portion I is a metallic ring 2, which may be secured thereto in any desired manner; but I have preferably shown the same as being constructed of a single strip o f sheet metal bent upon itself so as to receive the edge of said body portion and then clamped tight to hold the same in position. l The ends of the rings may be secured by soldering, clamping, or riveting, as may be desired. 3 3 designate metallic loops or eyes secured to the'body portion diametrically opposite to each other and are secured in position by means of their free ends, which encircle the metallic ring 2 and may be used for a purpose hereinafter set forth. A cover 4, of fabric or any other desired material, is placed over the convexed ger of soiling the same.

A pincushion thus constructed may be suspended from the Wall byl means of one of the loops or eyes 3 directly, or, if desired and in order to further ornament the same, a ribbon 6 may be attached thereto and used for that purpose.v The othereye or loop may be used as a means whereby the cushion may be removed and transported without the necessity of placing the hand in contact with the upper face thereof, thereby obviating all dan- These eyes or loops 3 are covered by the ribbon 5, thus rendering it impossible to see them from the front side. r

Particular attentionis called to the fact that the body portion of the cushion is hollow and being constructed vof a foraminous material obviates the necessity of the use of any filling material, yet it presents a pierceparting from the spirit of my invention.

' Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new is- I. A pincushion having a convexed body portion consisting of a foraminous web having a peripheral ring and a loop of stiff Wire Vsecured to said ring.

2. A pincushion having a foraminous body portion, and a plurality of loops of stiff Wire rigidly secured thereto. Y

3. A pincushion having a foraminous body portion, a plurality of loops of stiff wire rigidly secured thereto, and a border of shirred IOO material surrounding the body portion above the loops.

4. A hollow pincushion having a pierceable body portion, a peripheral ring surrounding and clamping the edge of the body portion and a plurality of loops of sti wire rigidly attached to said ring, said loops having their free ends encircling the ring.
