Description

. HECKENKAMP, JR,
DECOY ANCHOR.
APPLICATION F|LED MAY 2? l9l6.
Patented Apr. 30, 1918.

rnnnnnicn wir. i-incknnnaivrr, in., or QUINCY, ILLINOIS.
DECOY-ANCHOR.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, FREDERICK WM. HncKnNKAMr, .l r., a citizen of the United `States, residing at Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Decoy-Anchors; and l do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to decoy anchors and particularly to a device for anchoring live decoys.
lts objects are to produce a device that will be simple and efficient; that may be quickly and easily applied or removed from the devoy; and that will prevent its escape without injury while in use.
To attain the foregoing objects and such others as may hereinafter appear, my invention consists in the features hereinafter set forth and then sought to be clearly defined by the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof and in which Figure l is a view illustrating the device in use.
Fig. 2 is a plan view and Fig. 3 is a side view.
rlhe drawings illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention which comprises a member l preferably fashioned from a single piece of wire of any suitable material bent to form a head receiving member or loop 2 of sufiicient size to permit the head of the decoy to be passed therethrough, and a head retaining member or loop 3 large enough to loosely receive or fit to the neck of the decoy and prevent the withdrawal of its head therefrom. The members or loops 2 and 3 are connected preferably by parallel spaced bars 4l which provide a neck or restricted passageway between the loops of sufficient width to allow the neck of the decoy to be passed from the head receiving loop 2 to the head retaining loop 3.
rlhe ends of the member 1 are bent to form eyes 5 which overlap each other and receive an eye 6 of a swivel member 7 of any suitable construction to secure the eyes 5 together and prevent spreading of the ends Specification of Letters Patent. Paigglltid Aplggi), 1191i;
Application filed May 27, 1916. Serial No. 100,381.
. ofthe member 1, thereby holding it in the desired shape and permitting the swivel member to have a pivotal connection with the eyes 5.
Suitable means may be employed toan- Chor the decoy within a predetermined area such as a rope 8 fastened to the loop 9 of the swivel member 7 and to an anchoring weight (not shown).
To attach the device to the decoy, the head of the decoy is passed through the loop 2 and its neck then passed between the bars fl into the head retaining loop 8 which will prevent the withdrawal of its head and release of the decoy. The device will then be held in position against detachment by its own weight or the resistance offered by the anchoring rope.
It will readily be seen from the foregoing description and operation that the device is simple, efficient and inexpensive and may be quickly and easily applied or removed from the decoy with the liability of breaking or getting out of order reduced to a minimum.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is l. A device of the character described comprising a member formed with a headreceiving loop of a size to pass over the head of a decoy, a head-retaining loop of a size incapable of passing over the head of the decoy, bars connecting said loops and forming a passageway between them of sufiicient width to permit the neck of the decoy to pass from the head-receiving loop into the head-retaining loop, and means oonnected with said head-receiving loop to receive an anchoring means.
2. A device forl anchoring decoys comprising a head receiving member, a head retaining member,`parallel spaced bars forming an elongated passageway connecting said members, and means connected to said headreceiving member for attaching an anchoring means thereto.
3. A device for anchoring decoys comprising a loop, spaced bars forming an elongated passageway connected to said loop, a Second loop connected to said spaced bars and of a greater diameter than said first named loop, and means connected with said second loop for attaching an anchoring means thereto.
4L. A device for anchoring decoys coinprsing a substantially non-resilient member In testimony whereof I aix my signature ormed of a sinfrle blank sha ed to form a 1n resence of tWo Wltnesses.
u u b l l head retamino loo) and a head reoelvlno b D FREDERICH WM. HECKENKAMP, JR. loop With a restricted passageway between 5 the two loops, said blank being formed with Witnesses:
eyes at the ends thereof to receive means for D. W. MUMPER, connecting the ends of the blank. W. P. MARTINDALE.
