Be it known that I, WILLIE D. WHITNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Holley, in the county of Orleans and State of New York, have invented'a new and useful Harrow-Tooth Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fastening devices for barrow-teeth, and especially to' devices for connecting points with the tooth-bars of spring-toothed harrows.`
My invention has for its object to provide a fastener of this class by means of which the point, which in this case is a reversible point, may beclamped rmly and securely upon the barrow-tooth bar in such a manner as to en- My invention further has for an object to provide a fastening device in which the point securing-clip or attaching means.

Another object of my invention is to provide a fastening device in the form of atrapezoidal clip having a set-screw Which requires to be but slightly loosened in order to permit the point to be swung -to a diagonal position in the clip in order to enable it to be removed from the latter.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists inthe improvedconstruction, arrangement, and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

' The side bar 16 is shown of greater length than its companion 15, giving the connecting-` bar an inclined position, whereby the clip is made of substantially'trapezoidal form, and said connecting-bar being in'this manner diagonally disposed is of suflicient length to permit the'point member l? when the setscrew is loosened to be disposed diagonally and drawn freely from the clip, the diagonal dimension of the clip along the connectingbar being necessarily suiicient' to permit the longitudinal removal of a point having a somewhat-enlarged end, as is illustrated.
In operation the clip is passed over the point, so that the outer wall of the recess 10 rests against the engaging barile of the clip, and the set-screw is then forced against the tooth to secure it and the point together.
It will be seen that by the construction herein shown and specified a very light and durable fastening device is provided whereby a harrow-point may be secured very firmly in operative position upon a harrow spring- "tooth, By the trapezoidal shape of the clip material may be saved in the construction and the surface upon which dirt may lodge is reduced.: Another important advantage of the trapezoidal clip resides in the .fact that owing to the oblique disposition of the rear bar of said clip the portion of the set-screw lying between said rear bar andthe tooth member T, against which said set-screw presses, is greatly reduced. It will be readily understood that if fthe clip were made .rectangularinstead of trapezoidal a much longer portion of the set-screwv would be exposed, thereby weakening the construction and making the parts more liable tobecome loosened and separated from each other than where,

as by my present invention, the rear bar of the clip is obliquely disposed, rendering the device equally efficient to permit the removal of the point to be effected, but disposing one end of the rear cross-bar so much closer to the engaging front bar as to much reduce the length of the portion of the screw disposed between the rear cross-bar of the clip and the barrow-tooth engaged by the point of the said screw. The thickened portion of the obliquely-disposed bar 17 is an incidental feature which affords a very substantial support for the set-screw, which is seated in the threaded perforation extending through said thickened portion. The general construction is one of extreme simplicity, and my improved fastening device is one which will readily commend itself to the users of an article of this kind.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. The combination WithaharroW-tooth and a point to be attached thereto, of a clip having a cross-bar engaging said point, side bars of unequal length, across-barconnecting said side bars, and a set-screw extending through said cross-bar and engaging the barrow-tooth.
2. The combination Witha barrow-tooth and a point to be seated thereon, of a clip having a cross-bar engaging said point, side bars of unequal length, a cross-bar connecting said side bars and having a thickened portion forming a boss through which extends a threaded perforation, and a sot-screw extending through said perforation and engaging the barrow-tooth.
3. The combination witha barrow-tooth, of a point therefor, provided at each side with a recess forming shoulders, a closed clip encircling the point and coacting With the shoulders at both sides of said point, and a set-screw threaded through the clip and engaging the tooth.
