Be it known that I, BARTOLOMEUS J. OLEFF, ofthe city and county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have j invented a. new and useful Improvement in Spring-Bed Bottoms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the sume,

-reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this speciticution, in which- Figure 1 is a planview,

Figure 2 side view, and

Figure 3 an endvv'iew.

Similar letters of reference in each of the figures indicate corresponding parts.

The objectof my invention is to produce a bed-bottom which shall be cheap in construction, and comfortn able and easy to lie on.

A, the frame, the side pieces of which are straight, and the end pieces crowning; B, spiral springs; C, longitudinal slats; D, cross-slats woven into slats C, their ends fastened to the outside longitudinal slats; E, hooks connecting the longitudinal slats to one end of the frame F, hooks which connect the inner slats C in pairs to springs B. The two outer slats C are connected singly to their springs. The hook E of one of the outside longitudinal slats projects through the end piece of frame A, and has a nut, G, on it, with which tol tighten the slut when its spring is stretched to require it. All of the hooks E may be made in this way, if desired, and thus`ail`ord-mcans for tightening all the longitudinal slats. The spira-l springs B are hooked into holes made for the purpose in the other end of the frame A.

Y This bed-bottom, as shown in fig. 1,' with a mattress on it` forms a mostl complete sleeping-apparatus, the

operation of which is obvious. It may be made oi' any material suitable for the purpose.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A bed-bottom made crowning, with slut-s C and D, springs B, and hooks E, in combination, substantially as and for the purpose described.

Also, hook E, with its nut G, in combination with the spring B und sint C, connected thereto for the purpose of tightening the slut and spring, as described.

Also, the arrangement of the inside longitudinal sluts C in pairs, connected to springs B, with the two outside slats single, withA their connections, as described.
