A. RULLMANN, OF NEW YORK, N, Y.
Letters Patent 1V0. 69,252, dated September 24, 1867.
IMPROVED MEDICAL COMPOUND.
L te gtigetmle ttfttttb' it in flnse itttters @zztent nit making part at flge same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
lie it known that I, A. RULLMANN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and iinprovedMedic-al Compound; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereofi whieh will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same.
Hy improved medical compound is made of the following ingredients: first, orange peel, from fresh and ripe Oranges, entirely free from the woolly substance inside; second, cloves; third, Ceylon cinnamon; fourth, Peruvian balsam; fifth, ehemieally-purified spirit of wine, 95; and, sixth, ether. lThe orange peel to be cut in small pieces, in size about one-quarter of an inch, and, with the other-substances, infused or dissolved in spirits of wine, in the following proportions: One-quarter of a pound of orange peel in one gallon'of spirits of wine one ounce of cloves in one quart of the wine, one ounce of Ceylon cinnamon in one quart of the wine, one-quarter of an ounce of Peruvian balsam in one quart of the wine. Let each infusion soak three to four days; then strain the same. From the cinnamon solution take one ounce, from the clove solution one-quarter of an ounce, from the Eeru-bulsam solution one-eighth of an ounce, and of the ether one hundred and fifty drops, flIldJIllX thewhole with one gallon of the orange-peel solution; then reduce the strength of the whole with water to 42. Clear the solution with wasted sugar, agitate it well, and the elixir is ready for use.
Uses.
As a preventive against any disorder to which the stomach is subject, and in particular when cholera exists, or before a sea voyage, two tahle-spoonfuls taken before breakfast and one before every meal in the course of the day will prevent all stomach sickness. In an attack of cholera, three table-spoonfuls, and one every half hour until tlie vomit and cramps cease, will relieve the patient in'a short time, and cure him within twelve hours, and, zit) the some manner, sea-sickness. Intermittent fever, diarrhoea, bowel complaint, cramps, sick, weak, or disordered stomach, oli'ensive breath, itching piles, worms, loss of appetite, can all be cured in a very little while if the afflicted person takes two table-spoonfuls before breakfast and one before every meal, according to bodily strength, some patients more, some less.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The medical compound herein described, made of the ingredients and in the proportions herein specified. The above specification of my invention signed by me this thirteenth day of August, 1867.
I I A. RULLMANN.
