Be it known that I, JAMES HAMMOND, of Adams Centre, in the county of Jeii'erson, and State of Non York, have invented a. new and improved Chimney-Cap; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and. exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the some, reference being had to the adcompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

The present inventiomrelatesto a. cap for'chimneys, which is "so constructed as to act as a prescrver of chimneys, in completely preventing the rain from entering the top, while at the same time a propjcranil sh'fiicient 4 draughtis obtained or admissible. .In the accompanying plate of drawings my improved chimney-cable illustrated- Figure 1 being a plan ortop view of its under side, and i Figure 2 a longitudinal vertical section of the some, in the plane of the line x z, fig. 1.

A, in the drawings, represents my improved cap for chimneys, which consists of a cast-iron or o ther-snitable metal plate, hollowed out upon its under side, with outward flared end and side strips 13. C, four legs to the cap-plate A upon its under side, by which legs the cap-plate is stood upon the top of the chimney for which it is intended, raising it sufliciently above the same to cause no hindrance to the'draught.

By a cap-plate of the construction-above described, not only the rain is prevented from entering the chimmy and. the wind from driving down, but the passage of sparks therefrom arrested, and the rain conveyed out at the gutters in a stream. v i

Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The chimney-cap, constructed as described, of one piece of cast metal, hollowed out upon its under side 13, and having the legs 0, and with its ends and sides B flared outward, as herein shown anddeseribed.
