- Be it known that I, HENRY'ENGLISH, of the city of Wilmington,` in the State of Delaware, have invented a A new ondimproved Chimney-Top or top for fines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear,

und exact description of the construeton and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed draw'- rl'g's, forming a part of this specification, in whichi Figure Timid`rro-t'view.

I construct my Hue or chimney-top of any suitahle material, (not confining thyself to any particular shepef;

as it may be applied to any uepno matter #hat its shape,) with one or more apertures at the base, und also at or near the top, as shown in the'two drawings at d and b.

These apertures being slopedvupward, cause the wind, when striking theue or chimney-top, to take an upward course, no matter what the direction of the wind, and thus greatly increase the draught and prevent the Hue from smoking 'by reason of n. downward draught.

I do not claim the mere providing chimney-tops with apertures for the increase of draught, as I am aware that various kinds of openings have long since'been used for that purpose; nor do I claim the form of the top'; but

What I do claim as my invention, undv desire to secure by Letters Patent, is l The construction of chimney-tops with one or more apertures at the base and upper portion, constructed und arranged as hereinbefore described for the purpose set forth.
