KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS:

That I, A.-W. WILGOX, of the city nnd county of Worcester, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Melodeons; and I do hereby declare that the following,l is e full, clear, and o'xactdescription of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming o. part of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 represents a. perspective view of so much oto. melodeon as is necessary to illustrate my invention.

Figure 3 represents a vertical cross-section of fig. 1,- looking in the direction indicated by the arrow, iig. 1.

For instance, wher-ivoire l isopcn, only then o. tone called oboe or houtboyis producedgwhen valves l and are open, o. trumpet tone is prodneed;` and when only valve 2 is open, e tone is produced resembling the elnrionct. Inoddition to the above-named tones, the quality may bevnried by changing the valves into other combinations.

The swell box C has tiro valves, D ond E, which are both opened by depressing lever vF'so as to cause it to swing upon its pivot c, thereby opening valve E, which swings down, while volvo D is clevotcdby the connection G, (see red lines, iig. 'f is an air-hole which forms n, eommnniention-between the interior of chnmberB and the swell-box C.
