UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAV M. BEYER, OFMILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
SLATE-FRAME CUSHION.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 608,247, dated August 2, 1898.
Application filed March 18 l 8 9 7.
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it-known that I, GUSTAV M. BEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of \Visconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Slate-Frame Cushions, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in elastic cushions for slates.
The object of my invention is to so cushion the corners of slate-frames or slates that they can be handledin silence.
In the following description reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a View of myimproved slate, showing one form of my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a portion of a slate, showing two other modifications of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view drawn on the line X X of Fig. 2. f
Like parts are identified by the same reference-letters throughout the several views.
In Fig. 1 I have shown my slate having its corners provided with a cap A, of rubber, leather, or similarmaterial, with a projecting flange B, conforming'in general outline to the rounded edge of. the corner. The caps may be merely glued to the slate-frame or slate or they may be attached thereto by Serial No. 628,127. (No model.)
frame, while at thelefthand in Fig. 2 I have shown a third modification of my invention, in which the slate-frame is provided with a cylindrical plug G, of rubberor leather, inserted through a hole in the frame, and this plug is prevented from slipping out by means of a fiat band H, of similar material, engaged in the saw-cuts I I on each side of the corner of the slate in such a manner that the band passes directly over the projecting ends of the plug G, as best shown in Fig. 3. This form of my invention is preferred when the pupils are disposed to tamper with or remove the protection from the corners of the slate, as the band may be easily fastened in the saw-cuts so that it cannot be removed, and when made of leather it becomes exceedingly difficult for V ter distends the band to form a projecting cushion, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GUSTAV M. BEYER. \Vitnesses:
Ms. B. ERWIN, LEVERETT 0. WHEELER.
