UNIT D STATES EDWARD M. REINHARDT, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
BATH-TU B.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 578,264, dated March 2,1897.
Application filed July 21, 1 8 9 6.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD M. REINHARDT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bath-Tubs and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of tub. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section through same. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of one-half of tub. Fig. at is a section on line m m, Fig. 3, with lining of tub removed. I
This invention is designed to provide a bathtub of comparatively inexpensive construction, and one which can be readily set up or taken down; and the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the body of the tub, which is of sheet metal, such as sheet-zinc.
B designates the legs, which are preferably of cast-iron, and O designates the rim, which is preferably of wood. The legs B are each provided with an outwardly-curved foot 19, and their upper ends are flanged, as indicated at 5 to form a seat for the rim 0, which is bolted or otherwise secured thereto. These legs are of oonvexo-concave form, and the curvature of their inner edges or faces conforms to the curvature of the body A of the tub. The two legs at each end are connected by a transverse curved brace or arm D, whose rabbeted end portions 01 are bolted to the inside of the legs.
Each of these braces or Serial No. 600,011. (No model.)
arms has at its inner lower edge a flange cl, which seats the end of a board E, which extends longitudinally underneath the tub from one end to the other and is secured to the braces by screws or bolts. The upper face of this board is concaved to fit the convexity of the bottom of the body portion A. It not only affords a reinforcement for said bottom, but it also braces the legs longitudinally. The upper edge portions of the body A are bent outwardly to form flanges a, which are seated and secured between the rim 0 and the flanges b .of the legs B.
The sides or the front only of the tub may be ornamented by figures H of suitable design stamped from sheet metal, and the legs B may be cast with an ornamental surface configuration, giving the tub a neat appearance.
While of comparatively inexpensive character atub thus constructed is strong and durable, besides being of portable character.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a frame for bathtubs, the combination with the four independent legs, of the arched transverse integral braces detachably connected to and connecting the respective pairs of said legs, and having each an inwardlyprojecting transverse ledge or flange, and the longitudinal plano-concave board whose end portions are seated on the said ledges or flanges and to the concave face of which the bottom portion of the tub is fitted, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDIVARD M. REINHARDT.
