To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT SCHREINER, of

South Evanston, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Screen-Doors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to an improvement in screen doors, and it has for its object to so construct such a door as to prevent the entrance of insects into the room when the door is opened, and to efiect such an improvement in a simple and economic manner.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which similar figures and letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure l is a perspective view of a doorway provided with the improved screen. Fig. 2 is a transverse section through the doorway and door and screen attachment, the door being closed. Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. 2, the screen-door being opened. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section through the doorway, taken above the screen-door and the guard or wing for thedoorway; and Fig. 5 is a detail view of the caster-support for the improved screendoor.

In carrying out the invention the door-way A to which the screen door is to be applied is provided with a partial housing, said housing consisting of a screen panel secured to one of the door jambs upon the outer face thereof, and extending from .the bottom preferably to the top of the door ope'ning, and the said screen panel 10 is located at an acute angle to the said door jamb, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. This panel 10 has attached to its upper end preferably a triangular screen panelll, the

latter panel being likewise secured to the upper portion of the frame surrounding the door opening A, as is shown in Fig. 4.

The screen door B,adapted to close the opening A, is of ordinary construction, or may be constructed in any suitable or approved manner, and closes into the frame surrounding the said opening A in the usual manner; and

the said screen door B, is hung usually at the outer side of the door opening A, the main door 0 being hinged at the inner side of the said opening.

A wing or panel 12, constructed altogether or partially of a screen material, is-rigidly secured to the free or outer perpendicular edge of the screen door, and is located at an acute angle to the latter. 12 of the screen'doo'r is connected with the door proper B, through the medium of one or more braces 13, and the angle at which the wing or extension 12 is located with reference to the door B, is preferably greater than the angle at which the panel 10 of the housing is located with reference to the door jamb 0 frame. v

The screen door B has attached to its upper edge an angular, preferably triangular screen panel 12, the said panel being attached likewise to the extension or wing 12; and at the outer or free edge of this wing a closing strip 14, is placed, adapted, when the screen door is closed, to engage with the panel 10 of the housing, as shown in Fig. 2.

is usually provided with a knob 15, or its equivalent, whereby the screen door is opened, and a caster 16, is located in the bottom of the closing strip, as shown in Fig. 5, whereby the screen door-and its extension may be opened and closed with the least possible amount of exertion and friction. In the operation of this device, the door being closed, as shown in Fig. 2, it is opened by grasping the knob 15, and swinging the door with its extension 12 outwardly to, for example, the

position shown in Fig.3, whereupon the upper panels 11 and 12 will prevent insects from entering theroo on through the door opening A toany'considerable extent from the top, while the housing panel 10 will form a barrier to the insects attempting to enter at one side of the door opening, while the door and its extension 12, willserve as a barrier from the front and from the opposite side.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A screen door provided with a panel attached to its free vertical edge and located at an angle to said door, said panel extending The wing or extension -IOO from the top to the bottom of the door and a horizontal panel connecting the door and vertical panel at the top, substantially as shown and described.

2. A screen door provided at its free edge with an outwardly projecting vertical panel extending the entire length of the door, and a horizontal triangular panel secured to the upper edge of the door and to the vertical panel, substantially as described.

3. A screen door provided with a panel at tached to its free vertical edge and located at an angle to said door, said panel extending from the top to the bottom of the door a horizontal panel connecting the door and vertical panel at the top, and a caster carried by. the vertical panel of the door, whereby the latter may be readily opened and closed, substantially as shown and described.

4. The combination, with a door opening and a housing located at one side of the said opening, comprising a screen panel vertically attached to the framing of the opening, and an angular horizontal panel connected with the vertical panel and with the upper portion of the said frame, of a screen door, adapted to close the said opening, a vertical panel or extension attached to the free vertical edge of the door, a horizontal panel connecting the door and vertical panel and adapted to pass beneath the horizontal panel of the said housing, a closing strip secured to the vertical panel of the door and adapted for engagement with the corresponding panel of the housing, and a rolling support provided for the door and its panel, as and for the purpose set forth.
