0. RpHARRlS. SUSPBNDER CLASP.
No. 451,046. Patented Apr. 28, 1891.
Nr'rno TATES ,ATENT FFICE.
SUSPENDER-CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 451,046, dated April 28, 1891.
Application filed January 15, 1891. Serial No. 377,836. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES R. HARRIS, of \Villiamsport, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender- Clasps; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertainsto make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in Suspender-clasps, the object being to provide a simple attachment for connecting the parts of asuspender, the same consisting of a single plate of metal bent substantially as shown; and it consists, further, in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improved clasp, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blank from which the clasp is formed.
A represents the clasp for securingthe suspender-webs and supporting the button-holestraps clasp B, the two clasps being connected by a shank preferably integral with both clasps, as shown. The clasp A is preferably V- shaped, each member being composed of two leaves adapted to be folded over the edges of the suspender-web and provided with teeth for engaging the webs and locking the parts together. This clasp A not only secures the two sections of the Suspender-webs together, but it also forms a binding for the selvage edges of the two straps. The clasp B is also approximately V-shaped, and is employed for securing together the upper ends of the button-hole straps.
The shank 1, which connects the clasps A and B, consists of a narrow thin strip, preferably integral with the clasps A and B. This shank is sufficiently flexible to enable it to give or yield to the motion of the wearer and is preferably bent inwardly out of the planeof the outer faces of the two clasps A and B, for the twofold purpose of improving the appearance of the device and also for forming two shoulders or abutments 2 and 3 for the ends of the suspender-Webs and button-hole straps, respectively, so that when the clasps are closed on the webs and straps the ends of the webs are for all practical purposes concealed.
I'Iavingfully described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A suspender-clasp the upper portion of which consists of a substantially V-shaped clasp folded at its edges so as to lap the outer edges of the suspender-webs and form a binding therefor, and provided with teeth for engaging the webs, a clasp for the button-hole straps, and a shank integral with and intermediate the smaller ends of both clasps, sub stantially as set forth.
2. A Suspender-clasp composed of a single piece of metal comprising the body port-ion, the clasp proper, and a shank connecting said parts, the body and clasp constructed with folding leaves having teeth thereon, and the shank having shoulders formed therein adjacent to theinner ends of the body and clasp, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES R. HARRIS.
