Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. MUNDT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Germantown, in the county of Seward and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Hasp-Locks; and 'I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable 1o others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

x 5 This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combination vhasplocks, the object .thereof being to provide a simple, cheap, and effective hasp which carries a combination-lock, so that the hasp can zo be used with or without the lock; and the invention consists in the construction and combination of the parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings,forming part of this specification, Figure l is a front view of a combined hasp and lock constructed in accordance with my invention, the same being adapted to be applied to either slide or hinged doors, the hasp being shown in engagement with the lock in full lines and with the catch in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line w of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is aseotional view on the line y y of Fig. l, the hasp 3 5 being removed. The hasp proper is made up of two parts A and B, which are hinged to each other by having their ends turned over a pintle a in theusual manner.` The part B is provided with three parallel slots b b h, connected by an intersecting slot a', as shown, and through one of these slots passes a pivot-bolt B', beneath the head of which is located awasher b', said pivot-bolt passingthrough the door and suitably secured in place by a nut. By provid- 5o ing the portion B of the hasp with the slots,

as shown, the hasp can be moved upon its pivot-bolt, either vertically or laterally, to accommodate the hasp to any shrinkage or displacement of the door or lid to which it is secured. The portion A of the hasp is provided 5 5 with a bayonet-slot a, the projection formed by said slot engaging with a slot cin the catch C, said catch also having a recess c in which the hasp lies. The catch C is preferably made up of one of the extended sides of a box D, which is let into a recess formed in the doorframe or adjacent door, said box being secured by screws, as shown.

The free end of the hasp A carries keys E, the upper ends of v which are formed into knobs, immediatelybeneath which are secured disks F, these disks being secured adj ustably over the shanks of the keys and rest upon the upper face of the hasp. The keys are held upon the hasp by springkeys g, and the lower 7o ends thereof are provided with projections e, which abut against one of the Walls of the box or recess D to prevent the disengagement of the hasp from the slot c, so that said hasp will be held locked until a proper turn is given to the keys E. The disks F are provided with a series of notches, opposite` which may beplaced letters or numerals, and a suitable mark is also made upon the hasp A.

Vhen this hasp is used in connection with 8o a trunk or chest, I employ a frame, as shown in Fig. 3, which consists of two plates ifi', one above the other, having key-hole slots 7c k', through which the stems or shanks of the keys E pass, and, if desired, a box or cover G may be placed over the keys and secured thereto by suitable nuts. This box will thoroughly protect the keys from injury, and one edge h of the same is slotted to permit it to lie over the hasp. 9o

It will be evident from the foregoing that my improved combination hasp-lock is applicable to all such uses ashasp-locks have heretofore been applied, and when the Same is used there will be no necessity for carrying keys.

Having thus described my invention, I claim 5 l. The combination of a hasp made up of two parts A and B, the part A carrying per- IOO mutation-looks and provided with a bayonetslot a, and the portion B of the hasp having three connected slots, so that the hasp can be moved vertically or longitudinally upon its pivot-bolt, substantially as set forth.

2. In a hasp-loek, the combination of the parts A and B, seen red to each other and horizontally and pivotally movable upon a bolt B', the free end of the hasp having a bayonetslot a, together with a eateh having an opening c, substantially as shown.

A hasp made up of the parts A and B, hinged to each other, keys E, carried by the portion A of the hasp, said keys having a stem,disks F, adapt-ed to fit over said stem, and pins g for retaining the keys upon the hasp, said keys being provided at their lower ends with projections e and plates with which said keys engage, substantially as set forth.

4. In combination with a hasp-loek carrying one or more keys, a covering-plate having a raised central portion within which the keys will lie, a notched edge through which the hasp will pass, and proj eetng ends, with perforations through which bolts pass for securing the protecting-box above the end of the hasp and keys, substantially as set forth.
