Abstract

A storage rack for hunting arrows of the type having a sharp arrowhead comprising a cabinet including walls defining a housing including a back wall, top wall, bottom wall, side walls and a cover in spaced relation to the back wall and enclosing the storage area of the cabinet. The side walls have longitudinally spaced slots for receiving a portion of an arrow. Intermediate walls extend from the back wall in spaced relation to the side walls. The intermediate walls have longitudinally spaced slots aligned with slots in the side walls for receiving another portion of the arrow. The tip or head of the arrow is positioned between an intermediate wall and a side wall, so that an arrow positioned in said aligned slots cannot be removed when the cover is in closed position on said cabinet.

r 1 STORAGE CABINET FOR HUNTING ARROWS This invention relates to the storage of hunting arrows.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION In the use of arrows for hunting for game, it is common to provide sharp edges on the arrowheads which often have serrations making them extremely dangerous to handle. Thus, when the hunting arrows are stored in a home, extreme care must be exercised to keep the arrows away from children and domestic animals.

Among the objects of the invention are to provide a storage cabinet which effectively stores hunting arrows, wherein the arrows are partially displayed and which can also be used as a desk and for storing and displaying one or more bows.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In the storage rack embodying the invention a cabinet is provided which includes walls defining a housing. The walls comprise aback wall, top wall, bottom wall, side walls and a cover is provided in spaced relation to the back wall to enclose the storage area of the cabinet. At least one of said side walls has longitudinally spaced slots for receiving a portion of an arrow and an intermediate wall extends from the back wall in spaced relation to the side wall. The intermediate wall has longitudinally spaced slots aligned with slots in the side wall for receiving another portion of the arrow. The intermediate wall is more closely spaced to the side wall having the slots such that the head of the arrow is positioned between the intermediate wall and the other side wall, whereby an arrow positioned in said aligned slots cannot be removed when the cover is in closed position on said cabinet.

18, 19 and 20, 21. Alternate slots extend different length or in other words every other slot is longer than the next adjacent one as shown in FIGS. 2 and 4. The arrows A are received in aligned slots with the heads or tips H of the arrows positioned between an intermediate wall 16 and side wall 13a and intermediate wall 17 and side wall 13b respectively. The distance between therespective intermediate walls and side walls is substantially equal to the length of the arrowhead.

A cover 22 is hinged by a hinge 23 about a horizontal axis to the top wall 11 and when closed cooperates with the intermediate bottom wall 15 to completely enclose the arrowhead storage area. A second cover 25 is hinged by hinges 26 to the lower wall 12 and when closed covers the office storage shelf 14 and intermediate bottom wall 15. Referring to FIG. 4, a locking element 27 is rotatably controlled by a tumbler'lock 28 and pivoted into engagement with an opening 27a in the bottom wall 15 to lock the door in position. Pivoted links 29 permit the cover 25 to function as a desk when open.

When the arrows are positioned in the cabinet by extending the shafts of the arrows in slots 18-2l with the heads between the intermediate walls and side walls, the ends of the arrows are exposed providing a decorative effect.

As shown in FIG. 4, the top wall can be provided with spaced openings 30 through which target arrows T can be inserted with the tips of the arrows extending into openings 31 of a block 32 adjacent the shelf 15 and rear wall 10. These arrows are not dangerous in handling and therefore can be removed even though the storage rack or cabinet is locked.

Further, in accordance .with the invention, space hooks 33 are provided on the cover 22 at a position for receiving the bow B and supporting it in proper relationship.

In the form of the invention shown in FIG. 6, the cabinet 40 comprises a bottom wall 41, rear wall 42 and top wall 40. A front wall 43 is hinged along one end to the end walls 44. Top wall 40 is formed with a plurality of open-ended slots 45. A secondary wall 46 is mounted on the inner surface of rear wall 42 and extends horizontally. A resilient strip 48 of rubber or the like is mounted in a horizontal slot 47 in the wall 46 and extends horizontally outwardly therefrom. Strip 48 is provided with spaced openings 48a each of which has a slit 49 extending outwardly to the free edge thereof.

The diameter of each opening 48a is slightly less than the diameter of the arrow shaft. The distance between the secondary wall and the bottom wall is substantially equal to the length of the tip of each arrow. Each arrow is positioned in the cabinet with the tip of each arrow engaging a recess in the bottom wall 41 and the shaft of each arrow is pushed through the slit 49 into opening 48a to frictionally hold each arrow out of engagement with the slot 45. A third wall 50 extends from the door 43 and engages the free edge of the strip 48 to prevent removal by side movement when the door is closed.

When the door 43 is closed, the arrows are locked in position. As in the previous forms of the invention,

1. In a storage rack for hunting arrows, of the type having a sharp arrowhead, the combination comprising a cabinet including walls defining an arrow storage area,

said walls comprising a back wall, top wall, bottom wall, and side walls,

a cover in spaced relation to the back wall closing storage area of the cabinet,

means locking said cover to said cabinet,

one of said side walls having longitudinally spaced slots for receiving a portion of an arrow,

an intermediate wall extending from the back wall in spacedrelation to the side walls,

said intermediate wall having longitudinally spaced slots aligned with slots in said one side wall for receiving another portion of the arrow,

said intermediate wall being more closely spaced to another side wall such that the tip of the arrow is positioned between said intermediate wall and said other side wall,

whereby an arrow positioned in said aligned slots is supported with the head of the arrow in said cabinet and the shaft extending to the exterior of said cabinet and the arrow cannot be removed when the cover is in closed locked position on said cabinet.

and en- 2. The combination set forth in claim 1 wherein said locking means includes means hinging the cover to said cabinet and means for locking said cover in closed position.

3. The combination set forth in claim 1 including a second intermediate wall adjacent said one side wall in spaced relation thereto, said second intermediate wall and said other side wall having aligned longitudinally spaced slots for receiving arrows whereby the heads of the arrows in said slots are positioned between said second intermediate wall and said one side wall.

4. The combination set forth in claim 1 wherein said slots are downwardly and inwardly inclined such that when the cabinet is mounted on a wall, the arrow tends to move to the bottom of the slot under the action of gravity.

5. The combination set forth in claim 1 wherein said intermediate walls extending fromthe back wall in spaced relation to the side walls,

said intermediate walls having longitudinally spaced slots aligned with slots in said side walls for receiving another portion of the arrow,

said intermediate walls being spaced with respect to said side walls such that the tip of the arrow is positioned between an intermediate wall and a side wall,

whereby an arrow positioned in said aligned slots is supported with the head of the arrow in said cabinet and the shaft extending to the exterior of said cabinet and the arrow cannot be removed when the cover is in closed position on said cabinet.

8. The combination set forth in claim 7 wherein said locking means includes means hinging the cover to said cabinet and means for locking said cover in closed position.

9. The combination set forth in claim 7 wherein said slots are downwardly and inwardly inclined such that when the cabinet is mounted on a wallfthe arrow tends to move to the bottom of the slot and to the action of gravity.

10. The combination set forth in claim 7 wherein adjacent slots have differing lengths and alternate slots cover includes spaced bow receiving books on the exterior surface thereof.

6. The combination set forth in claim 1 wherein adjacent slots have differing lengths and alternate slots have the same length.

7. In a storage rack for hunting arrows, of the type having a sharp arrowhead, the combination comprising have the same length.

11. In a storage rack for hunting arrows, of the type having a sharp arrowhead, the combination comprising a cabinet including walls defining an arrow storage area,

said walls comprising a back wall, top wall, bottom wall, and side walls,

a cover in spaced relation to the back wall and enclosing storage area of the cabinet,

means locking said cover to said cabinet,

one of said walls having longitudinally spaced slots for receiving a portion of an arrow,

whereby an arrow positioned in said slots is supported with the head of the arrow in said cabinet and the shaft extending to the exterior of said cabinet and the arrow cannot be removed whenthe cover is in closed position on said cabinet.

12. The combination set forth in claim 11 including protective means associated with said arrows for preventing marring of the arrows.

13. The combination set forth in claim 11 wherein said slots are provided in the top wall so that the arrows extend vertically.

14. The combination set forth in claim 11 including a resilient member mounted within said storage area and engaging said arrows.

15. The combination set forth in claim 11 wherein said resilient member has portions engaging the shafts of said arrows.

16. The combination set forth in claim 14 wherein said resilient member has a plurality of openings therein and a slot therein extending from each said opening to the periphery of said member whereby the shaft of an arrow can be inserted through said slot into said opening so that the shaft is resiliently supported by said member.

17. The combination set forth in claim 16 including means on said cover engaging the periphery of said resilient member to prevent removal of said shaft through said slit when said cover is closed. l

Claims

1. In a storage rack for hunting arrows, of the type having a sharp arRowhead, the combination comprising a cabinet including walls defining an arrow storage area, said walls comprising a back wall, top wall, bottom wall, and side walls, a cover in spaced relation to the back wall and enclosing storage area of the cabinet, means locking said cover to said cabinet, one of said side walls having longitudinally spaced slots for receiving a portion of an arrow, an intermediate wall extending from the back wall in spaced relation to the side walls, said intermediate wall having longitudinally spaced slots aligned with slots in said one side wall for receiving another portion of the arrow, said intermediate wall being more closely spaced to another side wall such that the tip of the arrow is positioned between said intermediate wall and said other side wall, whereby an arrow positioned in said aligned slots is supported with the head of the arrow in said cabinet and the shaft extending to the exterior of said cabinet and the arrow cannot be removed when the cover is in closed locked position on said cabinet.

2. The combination set forth in claim 1 wherein said locking means includes means hinging the cover to said cabinet and means for locking said cover in closed position.

5. The combination set forth in claim 1 wherein said cover includes spaced bow receiving hooks on the exterior surface thereof.

In a storage rack for hunting arrows, of the type having a sharp arrowhead, the combination comprising a cabinet including walls defining an arrow storage area, said walls comprising a back wall, top wall, bottom wall, and side walls, a cover in spaced relation to the back wall and enclosing storage area of the cabinet, means locking said cover to said cabinet, one of said side walls having longitudinally spaced slots for receiving a portion of an arrow, intermediate walls extending from the back wall in spaced relation to the side walls, said intermediate walls having longitudinally spaced slots aligned with slots in said side walls for receiving another portion of the arrow, said intermediate walls being spaced with respect to said side walls such that the tip of the arrow is positioned between an intermediate wall and a side wall, whereby an arrow positioned in said aligned slots is supported with the head of the arrow in said cabinet and the shaft extending to the exterior of said cabinet and the arrow cannot be removed when the cover is in closed position on said cabinet.

9. The combination set forth in claim 7 wherein said slots are downwardly and inwardly inclined such that when the cabinet is mounted on a wall, the arrow tends to move to the bottom of the slot and to the action of gravity.

10. The combination set forth in claim 7 wherein adjacent slots have differing lengths and alternate slots have the same length.

11. In a storage rack for hunting arrows, of the type having a sharp arrowhead, the combination comprising a cabinet including walls defining an arrow storage area, said walls comprising a back wall, top wall, bottom wall, and side walls, a cover in spaced relation to the back wall and enclosing storage area of the cabinet, means locking said cover to said cabinet, one of said walls having longitudinally spaced slots for receiving a portion of an arrow, whereby an arrow positioned in said slots is supported with the head of the arrow in said cabinet and the shaft extending to the exterior of said cabinet and the arrow cannot be removed when the cover is in closed position on said cabinet.

17. The combination set forth in claim 16 including means on said cover engaging the periphery of said resilient member to prevent removal of said shaft through said slit when said cover is closed.
