Description

A ug. 26, 1952 M. D. WARD DENTAL CABINET Filed Sept. 4, 1951 Patented Aug. 26, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural renements in cabinets, and the principal object of the invention is to provide what may be called a dental cabinet, for the purpose of conveniently accommodating toothbrushes and toothpaste as well as other accessories used in dental hygiene.
Some of the advantages of the invention reside in its simplicity of construction, its pleasing appearance, in its convenient accessibility, and in its adaptability to economical manufacture.
With the above more important objects and features in view, and such other objects and features as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention in its open position;
Figure 2 is a front elevational view thereof in its closed position;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line 3-3 in Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is an underside plan View of the invention.
Like characters of reference are employed to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the invention consists of a dental cabinet which is designated generally by the reference character I0 and embodies in its construction a suitable housing I2 including a back wall I4, a pair of side walls I6, abottom I8, and a front wall which is substantially lower than the side and back walls so as to afford an opening whereby convenient access may be had to the interior of the housing.
The housing also includes a cover 22 which is connected at its upper edge by a hinge 24 to the upper edge of the back wall I4, the cover 22 extending downwardly toward the upper edge of the front wall 2U when the cabinet is closed. as shown in Figures 2, 3 and 4. However, the cover may be swung upwardly about the hinge 24 as Y illustrated in Figure 1.
Laterally projecting finger pieces 26 are provided at the opposite sides of the cover for the purpose of opening and closing the same, and ianges 28 are provided at the side edges of the cover so as to overlap the side walls when the cover is closed.
A partition member is secured in the housing and includes a vertical panel 30 which is disposed intermediate the front and back walls I4, 20, and a horizontal panel 32 which extends from the upper edge of the vertical panel to the back Wall I4. In this manner, the interior of the housing is separated into a relatively large front compartment 34 and a relatively small enclosure or rear compartment 36, the latter being adapted to accommodate handles of toothbrushes 38 which are inserted downwardly through suitable openings 40 in the horizontal panel 32.
For purposes of ventilation, suitable apertures 42 are provided in the vertical panel, and similar such apertures 44, 46 are provided in the: cover 22 and the front wall 2U respectively. In addition, vent apertures 48 may be provided in the bottom I8, in communication with the compartment 36.
'The back wall I4 is preferably formed with suitable slots 50 to accommodate fastening elements 52 whereby the entire cabinet may be mounted upon a wall, or the like.
It is believed that the advantages and use of the invention will be clearly understood from the foregoing disclosure and accordingly, further description thereof at this point is deemed unnecessary.
While in the foregoing there hasbeen shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be` resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A dental cabinet comprising a housing including a back wall, a pair of side walls, a bottom, a front wall substantially lower than the side and back walls and a cover hinged at its upper edge to the back wall and extending downwardly to the upper edge of the front wall, flanges on side edges of said cover overlapping said side walls, and a partition member secured in said housing and including a vertical pane1 disposed intermediate the front and back walls and a horizontal panel extending from the upper edge of` the vertical panel to the back wall and spaced downwardly from the upper edge of the back wall, said partition member separating the housing into front and rear compartments and said horizontal panel being provided with a series of openings communicating with the rear compartment of the housing.
