A41d 13/10 U.S. Cl. 2-18 6 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A permanent hand bandage glove for boxers includes an inner layer of large white tape wound to extend from the wrist to the knuckles, leaving the fingers free. Five or six layers of white gauze extend all over the sticky surface of the tape. A strip of foam rubber or rubber sponge extends over the knuckles of the user and is covered by one or two additional layers of gauze. The bandage is covered by an outer layer of large white tape which, along with gauze, also extends between the fingers. The bandage has an elongated opening upon the side covering the inner surface of the hand. This opening may be closed by strings extending through eye-holes.
This invention relates to a permanent hand bandage glove for boxers.
At the present time, boxers wrap their hands with strips of white gauze before they put on their boxing gloves. These strips are wound around the hand from the wrist to the knuckles. Practical experience has shown that the use of this bandage is essential to preserve the hands of a boxer. However, the wrapping of the gauze around the hands consumes a certain amount of time. In the case of a match, the amount of available time may be limited. Persons wrapping the gauze around the hands of a boxer may be in a hurry or nervous, with the result that the gauze is not wrapped properly and slips off the hands.
An object of the present invention is to eliminate these drawbacks through the provision of a permanent bandage which the boxer puts on his hand before he puts on his boxing glove and which he removes after the removal of the boxing glove. The bandage is permanent, so that the same bandage can be used on numerous occasions.
Other objects of the present invention will become apparent in the course of the following specification.
In the accomplishment of the objectives of the present invention it was found desirable to use layers of white gauze of the same type which are now used for one-time bandages. However, the layers of gauze are located between inner and outer layers of white tape which are wound in the shape of a hand extending from the wrist to the knuckles. Furthermore, a strip of foam rubber or rubber sponge which may be about three and one-half inches long is mounted to protect the knuckles. The bandage leaves the fingers free. However, the base of the thumb is enclosed by the bandage and narrow strips of gauze surrounded by tape extend between the other four fingers. The side of the bandage covering the inner hand surface is split and may be closed by a string extending through suitably located eye-holes.
The invention will appear more clearly from the following detailed description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, showing, by way of example only, a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a front view of a permanent hand bandage of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a rear view;
FIG. 3 is a top view;
FIG. 4 is a longitudinal section along the line IV-IV of FIG. 3;
FIG. 5 is a transverse section along the line V-V of FIG. 2.
Patented Mar. 9, 1971 The permanent hand bandage glove shown in the drawings may be made individually for the specific use of a certain boxer. However, it can be also made in large quantities in dilferent sizes corresponding to those of human hands.
The interior of the permanent hand bandage glove consists of a layer 10 of large white tape. The tape is wound transversely to the direction of the hand with its sticky surface on the outside and is shaped so as to conform to the shape of the hand from wrist to the knuckles leaving free spaces for the fingers. Several layers 11 of white gauze are located between the inner tape layer 10 and the outer covering 12 which also consists of large white tape wound transversely in the same manner as the inner layer. An elongated strip 13 of foam rubber fits over the gauze 11 and is used to cover the knuckles of the user. Obviously the size of the strip 13 will also vary, depending on the hand size. Additional layers of gauze extend over the strip 13 and over all the inner layers of gauze. These layers may be used to provide strips 15 extending between the fingers of the hand. However, the strips 15 are firmly covered on the outside by wound layers of tape.
As shown in FIG. 2, the permanent hand bandage glove has a long rear slit 16 with punched eye-holes 17 located along opposite edges of the slit. A string 18 extends through the holes 17 and can be tied so that the hand bandage glove will be held firmly.
It is apparent that the described hand bandage glove can be quickly and easily placed over the hand of a boxer and tied firmly, so that it will not shift or slip. Then the boxer puts his boxing glove over the bandage. The time of application is greatly reduced as compared to the winding of one-time bandages and there is no danger that the bandage will not serve its purpose.
I claim:
1. A permanent hand bandage for boxers, comprising outer and inner covers consisting of layers of wound tape having substantially the shape of a hand from the wrist to the knuckles, such tape having one sticky surface, and layers of gauze between said covers in contact with the sticky surface of the tape forming said outer and inner covers.
2. A hand bandage glove in accordance with claim 1, wherein said layers of tape are wound transversely to the direction of the hand.
3. A hand bandage glove in accordance with claim 1, comprising a knuckle-protecting strip of rubber located between said covers.
4. A hand bandage glove in accordance with claim 1, having an opening for the fingers of a hand, and strips of gauze enclosed by tape adapted to extend between the fingers.
5. A hand bandage glove in accordance with claim 1, having a slit extending upwardly from the lower edge of the glove upon the inner side thereof, and means closing said slit.
6. A hand bandage glove in accordance with claim 5, wherein said means comprise a string extending through holes formed along the edges of the slit.
