CONTROL-GLOVE.
Specification of Letters latent. Patented Sept, 20, 1921.
Application filed October 15, 1920. Serial No. 417,168.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN G. ROPIAK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Control 7 Gloves, of which the following is a. specification.
This invention relates togloves, and is especially adapted for use by motormen, engineers, etc., who find it necessary to use a protector for the palm of the hand in the summer as well as the winter, in order that they may more aptly discharge the duties of their positions.
An objectof this invention is to provide a hand covering which will permit-ventilation ofv thehands of the user, but which nevertheless adequately covers and protects" the portions of the hands and fingers which come in contact with various objects in the levers, brakes, etc.
The above and other objects of this'invention will be in part described and in part understood from the following description of the present preferred embodiment of the invention taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1, is an elevational view of the inside of the glove constructed in accordance 'with my invention.
Fig. 2, is a, longitudinal sectional view thereof taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and- Fig. 3, is a sectional view taken on the line 83 of Fig. 1. In the drawings, a palm'engaging body 4 is shown which is preferably made of leather, although any other suitable material may be used if desired. The outer end of said body tapers as indicate-d at 5, while theopposite end has portions of its lateral margins restall 9 is arranged on the inner face of the body 4 in proximity to one of the reduced margins 6. This stall is likewise formed from a blank, having one end thereof secured to the body 4, and one side thereof turned over into parallelism with the opposite side and stitched or otherwise fixedly secured thereto. It will be noted that one of the sides of the thumb stall is extended to prov1de a tab which is engaged with the body 4,
the opposite side terminating approximately at the margin of the body 4 which the thumb stall overlies. A wrist engaging band 10 is provided, one end of which is equipped with abuckle 11 for engagement with the free end of the strap. The strap is provided with the hand of the wearer. By making the body .portion 4 fiat, ventilation will be permitted therebetween and the palm of the hand when the operator disengages his hand from the lever or other object with which it has been engaged. Various changes may be made in the shape, size, and materials used without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention as covered by the appended claim. hat is claimed is:
A glove including a fiat palm engaging body, a blank engaged across one end of the body with its margin secured to the marginv of the body to provide a single stall for the reception of the tip ends only of all of the fingers, and a second blank secured to said body reversely folded uponitself, and the marginal edges thereof secured to provide an inclosed thumbstall. v
In testimon whereof I afiix my signaturein presence 0 two witnesses. I
JOHN G. ROPIAK.
