Description
March 14, 1967 D. P. RUSSEY SANITARY DIAPER WASHER Filed Nov. 13, 1964 INVENTOR. a PAEK 20535) W ATTORNEYS.
United States Patent 3,308,640 SANITARY DIAPER WASHER Doctor Park Russey, S. 2nd at Elm, Abilene, Tex. 79602 Filed Nov. 13, 1964, Ser. No. 410,947 7 Claims. (Cl. 68-235) This invention relates to a sanitary diaper washer and has as its primary object the provision of a means for washing diapers without the necessity of handling the same.
An additional object of the invention is the provision of the diaper washer of this character which may be mounted directly on the bowl of a toilet or commode, with the diaper suspended therein and washed by means of a hose or spray, so that the excrement carried by the diaper is washed directly into the toilet bowl, from which it may be flushed.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character provided with means whereby hangers upon which soiled diapers are supported may be interchangeably positioned therein and removed there from after the diapers have been washed.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is sturdy and durable in construction, reliable and efficient in operation, and relatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a diaper washer of this nature which may be readily and simply mounted on the toilet seat, and which may have components thereof foldable, in order to facilitate shipping and storage.
Still other objects reside in the combinations of elements, arrangements of parts, and features of construction, all of which will be more fully pointed out hereinafter and disclosed in the accompanying drawings wherein there is shown a preferred embodiment of this inventive concept.
In the drawings:
FIGURE 1 is a side elevational view of one form of a diaper washer constructed in accordance with the instant invention and mounted on a toilet;
FIGURE 2 is a front elevational view of the same;
FIGURE 3 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 33 of FIGURE 1, showing the extensible and retractable hooks, the toilet or commode being omitted;
FIGURE 4 is a top plan view of the device removed from the commode; and
FIGURE 5 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view taken substantially along the line 5-5 of FIGURE 1 showing the constructional detail.
Having reference now to the drawings in detail, the device of the instant invention is generally indicated at 10, and comprises a shell 11, of substantially semi-circular construction, having its front open as at 14, and the sides of the front adjacent the opening inwardly curved as at 15, the overall dimensions of the shell conforming in general to the overall dimensoins of the rim 16 of the bowl 17 of a conventional toilet or commode generally indicated at 18. The latter may include the usual flush tank, shown at 19, although this may be positioned remotely, a seat 20 and a lid or cover 21.
The shell 11 has a relatively flat edge 23, which is adapted to have secured thereto a dome-shaped cover 24, which is cut away in front as at 25, and which has an arcuate top 26 with a T-sh-aped slot having a stem 27 and a cross head 28. The slot is adapted for the reception of the 3,308,640 Patented Mar. 14, 1967 hook 29 of an ordinary triangular hard plastic hanger 30 having a crossbar 31, upon which are adapated to be positioned clothes pins 32 for the support of a diaper 33 directly over the bowl 17. The bottom of the cover is offset as at 35 to provide a shoulder 36 which seats on the flat top 23 of the shell, and which is held in watertight relation therewith by means of plastic clips 37.
A set of four substantially U-shaped hard plastic hooks 40 are pivotally mounted in lugs 41 which project from the outer side of forward edges 15, and are adapted to overhang the rim 16, as best shown in FIGURES 1 and 2. In FIGURE 3 the hooks are shown as extended, and in FIGURE 4 they are shown as retracted to facilitate packing, shipping or storage of the device.
A supporting strap 45 extends through a slot 46 at the lower rear of the cover and a second slot 47 at the upper rear of the shell, and terminates in a relatively rigid hook 48 which, when the device is in position for operation hooks over the upper edge of the toilet seat 20.
From the foregoing the use and operation of the device can now be readily understandable. The hooks 40 are extended outwardly, and the shell seated on the rim 16 of the toilet bowl with the seat 20 raised. The cover is secured in fluid tight position by means of the plastic clips 37 and a soiled diaper is secured to the cross bars 31 of the hanger 30 by means of the clips or clothes pins 32. A hose or spray is then extended from the faucet of the tub or basin, and the diaper thoroughly washed. The hanger is so dimensioned that it is freely rotatable within the shell, and consequently both sides of the diaper may be washed with a minimum of effort and difiiculty. After the daiper is thoroughly washed or rinsed the toilet may be flushed, and the hanger removed for hanging the diaper to dry or released into diaper pail without the necessity of touching the diaper at all during the process.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved sanitary diaper washer which accomplishes all of the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment here-inbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
1. A diaper washer including a substantially semicircular shell of a diameter adapted to seat on the rim of a toilet bowl, means adapted to support said shell on a toilet bowl, a cover portion of substantially dome-shaped configuration having an open front, means for mounting said cover portion on said shell, and a diaper hanger secured to the inside of said cover.
2. The structure of claim 1 wherein the shell and cover are made of plastic, and wherein the cover is formed within an offset portion forming a flange which seats on the upper edge of the shell.
3. The structure of claim 2 wherein plastic clips are secured to said cover adjacent said flange and comprise the means for mounting said cover on said shell.
4. The structure of claim 3 wherein the cover is provided with a slot in its top and said diaper hanger is suspended through said slot.
5. The structure of claim 4 wherein the means adapted to seat the shell on the rim of a toilet bowl comprise laterally extending hooks on opposite outer sides of the bottom of the shell, and a strap having a hook on its end 3 4 extending upwardly from the rear of said shell adapted References Cited by the Examiner to engage the edge of the raised toilet seat. M UNITED vSTATES PATENTS 6. The structure of claim 5 wherein said cover and said shell are provided with aligned slots at the rear thereof and ggfgg g the strap extends through said slots for securing the cover 5 1795376 3/1931 Paul 68 235 and Shell wgether- 2,348,102 5/1944 Bake-r 68-205 7. The structure of clalm 5 wherein sa1d hooks are foldable to flat position. IRVING BUNEVICH, Primary Examiner.
