(Cl. 194-65) This invention has reference to ski storage apparatus, and the like, combining in a single unit a coin receiving housing and a storage compartment for the skis.

The Iobject of the presen-t invention is to provide ski storage apparatus of the type above-referred to, which is convenient in use, cheap to manufacture, and wherein a pair of skis may be llocked in a storage compartment in a positive manner.

'I"he novel features of the invention will appear from the following description and by the claiams appended thereto, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which:

FIG. l is a front assembly View of the storage apparatus for the skis showing the door of the ski storage compartment in the closed position, and the door for the coin receiving housing shown with portions broken away;

FIG. 2 is a right side view shown with the -side wall of the coin receiving housing with portion broken away;

FIG. 3 is a sectional View taken -on line 3 3 of FIG. 1 and looking in the direction indicated by the arrows;

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of FIG. 1 shown with a portion of the door for the coin receiving housing and the door for the ski storage compartment with portions broken away, the skis being shown in phantom lines in the stored position; and

FIG- 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of FIG. 1 showing the door of the ski storage compartment in the -open position.

The ski stonage apparatus of this invention, as best seen in FIG 3, comprises a coin receiving housing H and a storage compartment C for the skis. The coin receiving housing is formed of a right side wall W, a wall W2, common to the coin receiving housing and of the ski storage compartment, the bottom wall W3, FIGS. 1 |and 3, the top wall W4 and the rear wall W1 common to the coin receiving housing `and to the ski storage compartment, while a door D for the coin receiving housing is hinged by means of pin to the bottom wall W3 and by pin 11 at the top wall W4, `the door D for the coin receiving housing is provided with a lock LC, which forms no part of the present invention, having its latch element LH disposed for engaging a latch opening LO in the reduced width of common wall W2, as best seen in FIGS. 1 and 3.

The ski storage compartment includes, as albove mentioned, the common rear wall W1, the common side wall W2 and the side wall W5, the common side wall W2 and the wall W5 are formed with rib elements 12-13 and 14-15 interiorly of the ski storage compartment to serve for guiding a plate 16 upon the outward and inward sliding movements of the latter, an extent limited by screws 17 and 18, FIG. 4, in respective longitudinal slots 19 and 20 formed in the plate, while the head of screws 17 and 18 serve for frictionally holding the plate against the inner surface of wall W5 but allowing its free movement thereagainst.

A substantially L-shaped door 21 is hinged to the end portion of its longer side to the plate 16 |by means of a hinge-pin 16X in a manner to permit the pivotal movement of the door toward an open position at an angle of substantially 180, FIG. 5, from its closed position, thus allowing lthe placing of the skis in the compartment C for storage purpose, as shown by the phantom lines FIG. 4, which is followed by imparting a pivotal movement to the door toward the closed position, which is, in turn, followed by impar-ting a sliding movement to the plate 16 to the position shown in FIG. 3, wherein the hinge-pin 16X is positioned into the storage compartment C in position inaccessible for removal by an unauthorized person, the shorter side of the L-shaped door 21 being guided toward the closed position of the door against a stop ST formed by the enlarged portion of common wall W2, while the lateral movement of the door 21 to the position shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is eifective to locate the latch 25 of a lock LC2 carried by the door D of the coin receiving housing in registry with the opening 28, FIGS. l and 4, in the shorter side of door 21 for allowing locking the latter in the closed position by the movement of the latch 25 under the tension of spring 23, FIG. 1, through a lever 24 bearing against the abutment 30 for the latch. Further, the closing of door D also positions the latch of the lock LC in registry with the opening LO in the common Wall 14 for allowing the locking of this .door in the closed position in the well known manner.

The opening of the ski storage door 21 for the purpose of removing the skis from that compartment is eifected by inserting a coin into the opening 31, FIGS. 2 and 4, in the path of lever member 24, best seen in FIG, 1, wherein the operation of this lever by the rotation of key 35 is effective to move the coin in registry with an opening OP in the frame of lock LCZ while moving the latch 25 out of engagement from the opening 28 of the storage door 21, the coin falling `by gravity into the lower llevel of the housing at the time the pressure on the coin is released by the return movement of the key and thereby the return of lever 24 to normal position by the tension of spring 23, and the apparatus is now in condition for a subsequent skis locking storage operation.

The removal of the coins from the housing maybe effected by operating the lock LC in the ordinary manner which is followed by the operation of the storage door 21, as above mentioned, thus preventing the tampering of the apparatus .since both locks must be operated in order to give access to the interi-or of the coin receiving housing.

What I claim is:

1. An apparat-us for use in the storage of skis, said apparatus combining a coin receiving housing and a storage compartment for the skis, said housing comprising a side wall common to said compartment, a front wall, a roof, a base, a rear wall common to said compartment, a left disposed side wall for said storage compartment, a plate mounted `for sliding movement on the last mentioned side wall interiorly of said compartment, a substantially L-shaped door for said compartment having its longer side edge portion hinged to the outer disposed edge portion of said plate, a door for said housing pivoted to the top and to the base thereof, a lock in said housing cooperating with means carried by said common wall and said L-shaped door for locking the latter in the closed position upon the moving of said plate in the retracted position, and means in said housing cooperating with means carried by .said common side wall for locking the door of said housing independently of the `locked condition of said storage'compartment door.

2. An apparatus for use in the storage of skis, said apparatus combining a coin receiving housing and a storage compartment -for the skis, said coin receiving housing comprising a right side disposed Wall, a front wall having a door, a roof, a base and a rear wall common to said storage compartment, a left side wall for said housing common to said storage compartment, said left side wall having a plurality of lock-latch openings, another side wall for said storage compartment, a plate mounted for sliding movement on the last 4mentioned side Wall inte-riorly of said compartment, a pair of stud members carried by said side wall cooperating with means carried by said plate for limiting the sliding movement of the latter, a

substantially L-shaped door lfor said compartment having its longer side end portion pivoted to the outer disposed end portion of said plate, a latch opening in the .shorter side end portion of said L-shaped door registering with one of said latch openings in said common side wall upon the operation of said plate and said L-shaped door inwardly of said housing, a .manually operable coin-actuated mechanism mounted onto the door of said coin receiving housing interiorly thereof, 4said mechanism having a latch adapted to engage the other of said latch openings in said common side wall and the latch opening in the compartment door for locking the latter by the operation of said coin-actuated mechanism.

3. An apparatus Afor the use in the storage of skis, said apparatus combining a coin receiving housingv and a compartment for the skis, said housing comprising two side Walls, a front wall, a door for said front wall, a roof, and a rear wall, said rear wall forming a common wall for said skis storage compartment and for said coin receiving housing, one of said side walls forming a common wall between said housing and said compartment, another side wall -for said compartment, a plate mounted for sliding movement on the last mentioned side wall outwardly of said compartment, a substantially L-shaped door for said compartment pivoted to said plate and movable therewith inwardly of said compartment upon a sliding movement of said plate for closing said door wherein the pivot of said L-shaped door is .moved interiorly of said compartment in position inaccessible for removal upon the closing of said compartment door, and means carried by said housing door cooperating with Ameans ca-rried by said common side wall and with means carried by said door for locking the latter in the closed position.

An apparatus for use in the .storage of skis, said apparatus combining a coin receiving housing and a compartment for the skis, said housing comprising a front wall, a door therefor, a pair of locks mounted on said door interiorly of said housing, two side walls, a roof and a base, one of said side walls -forming a common wall for said storage compartment, a rear` wall for said coin receiving housing common to said compartment, another side wall for said compartment extending at right angle from .said rear wall having its free edge portion disposed in line parallel to the plane of said front wall, the last Imentioned side wall having guiding elements formed therewith interiorly of said compartment, a plate mounted for .sliding movement between said guiding elements, means carried by the last mentioned side wall cooperating with means carried by said plate =for limiting the sliding movement thereof, a substantially L-shaped door for said skis storage compartment having the edge portion of its longer side pivoted to the front edge portion of said plate, means carried by the shorter side of said L-shaped door cooperating with the latch element of one of said locks for engaging means ca-rried by said common side wall for locking the door of said skis storage compartment in the closed position following a sliding and pivotal movement of said plate, other means carried by said common wall cooperating with the door of said locks Ifor locking the housing door independently of the operation of said compartment door.

An apparatus for use in the storage of skis, said apparatus combining a coin receiving housing and a storage compartment for the skis, said housing comprising a right side disposed wall, a left side disposed wall common to said compartment, a roof, a base, a rear wall common to said compartment, another side wall for said compartment, a plate mounted for sliding movement onto the last mentioned side wall interiorly of said compartment, a substantially L-shaped door for said compartment having its longer side edge portion hinged to said plate for .movement of the hinge in position interiorly of said skis storage compartment upon the closing of the door by the inward `movement of said plate, a front wall for said housing having a door, a -coin-actuated latch mechanism mounted on said door, means manually operable -following the placing of a coin in the housing for actuating said latch, thereby releasing the compartment door, and a retractable spring for returning said means in the nonoperated position.

An apparatus for use in the storage of skis, said apparatus combining a coin receiving housing and a storage compartment for the skis, .a door for said coin receiving housing, a door for said skis storage compartment, a com-mon side wall between vsaid housing and said compartment, a lock carried by the door of said coin receiving housing cooperating with means carried by said co mon side wall for locking said housing door in the closed position, and anot-her lock carried by the door of said housing cooperating with .said common side wall and with means -car-ried by said compartment door for locking the latter in the closed position whereby the release of the ski storage compartment door is ineffective to release the door of said coin receiving housing door.

An apparatus `for use in the storage of skis, said apparatus combining a coin receiving housing and a storage compartment for the skis, a common side wall between said housing and said compartment, a storage compartment door and a door for said coin receiving housing, a lock mounted on the housing door interiorly of said housing, means in said common side wall for locking said door in t-he closed position by the operation of said lock, a manually coin actuated mechanism mounted on the door of said housing cooperating with locking means in said common .side wall and with means carried by said skis storage compartment door for unlocking the latter by .the operation of said mechanism, the operation of the latter being ineffective to release the door of `said coin receiving compartment.

Claims

1. AN APPARATUS FOR USE IN THE STORAGE OF SKIS, SAID APPARATUS COMBINING A COIN RECEIVING HOUSING AND A STORAGE COMPARTMENT FOR THE SKIS, SAID HOUSING COMPRISING A SIDE WALL COMMON TO SAID COMPARTMENT, A FRONT WALL, A ROOF, A BASE, A REAR WALL COMMON TO SAID COMPARTMENT, A LEFT DISPOSED SIDE WALL FOR SAID STORAGE COMPARTMENT, A PLATE MOUNTED FOR SLIDING MOVEMENT ON THE LAST MENTIONED SIDE WALL INTERIORLY OF SAID COMPARTMENT, A SUBSTANTIALLY L-SHAPED DOOR FOR SAID COMPARTMENT HAVING ITS LONGER SIDE EDGE PORTION HINGED TO THE OUTER DISPOSED EDGE PORTION OF SAID PLATE, A DOOR FOR SAID HOUSING PIVOTED TO THE TOP AND TO THE BASE THEREOF, A LOCK IN SAID HOUSING COOPERATING WITH MEANS CARRIED BY SAID COMMON WALL AND SAID L-SHAPED DOOR FOR LOCKING THE LATTER IN THE CLOSED POSITION UPON THE MOVING OF SAID PLATE IN THE RETRACTED POSITION, AND MEANS IN SAID HOUSING COOPERATING WITH MEANS CARRIED BY SAID COMMON SIDE WALL FOR LOCKING THE DOOR OF SAID HOUSING INDEPENDENTLY OF THE LOCKED CONDITION OF SAID STORAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR.
