Description

May 14, 1968 G. RAMON 3,382,503
KNEE PROTECT ING FLOAT Filed Feb. 9, 1966 BY /f/ v AT1-ORN EY f2 MM.
United States Patent O 3,382,503 KNEE PROTECTING FLUAT Gino Ramon, 7123 W. Blue Mound Road, Wauwatosa, Wis. 53213 Filed Feb. 9, 1966, Ser. No. 526,126 2 Claims. (Cl. 2-24) This invention relates to improvements in floats, and more particularly to a novel loat for use in the work of cement iinishing or the like.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which may be strapped to the legs of a user to protect the knees and shins.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device which need not be removed when the user is standing or walking about and which is always ready for immediate use when the kneeling position is assumed.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view from above of a oat for cement finishing embodying the invention.
FIG. 2 is a plan View thereof.
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 3-3 of FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 4 4 of FIG. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral refers to the oat proper, substantially a rectangular plate, having a raised marginal edge 11 and an arcuate front end 12. A pair of standards 13 and 14 are secured by means 15 to the float 10, and have a pair of vertical slots as at 16 to permit a limited vertical adjustment of the curved metal strap 17 secured in vertical slots 16 by threaded means 18. The strap 17 supports a knee rest 19 covered with a soft pile material at 20 and a resilient pad such as foam rubber or the like at 21.
A blockV 22 is secured at the rear end 23 of oat 10, and is topped by a concave recess at 24 covered by a portion of foam rubber 25. A pair of straps 26 are secured ice by means 27 to the upper ends of standards 13 and 14 and are secured about the calf of the users leg. A second pair of straps 27 are securable just inside the knee of the user.
In use, one float is secured to each leg of the user as detailed above, and he may then kneel with the oats 10 on the moist cement or other cementitious product as he works to finish it with a trowel or the like.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, Within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. A oat for cement finishing comprising a substantially rectangular plate, a raised rim thereon, a pair of vertical strap standards laterally disposed at the approximate center of said plate, a knee support base, a metal strap extending between said standards transversely under and alixed to said support base, slot means in said standards for a vertical adjustment of the metal strap and support base, padding on the upper surface of said knee support base, and threaded means for xing the adjusted strap on said standards.
2. A device as in claim 1, including a block at the rear of the float having a concave upper Surface, and a resilient layer thereon to cushion the same.
