Definitions

  • ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A package for needles having a folded paper body construction with a plastic bubble formed of a plurality of connected fiat surfaces covering an opening in the body to allow viewing of needles retained within the package.
  • This invention relates to a packing for needles, hardware or the like, which is formed as a folder or is of card-shaped form, and has a front wall with an opening in which is a transparent shell projecting from the front wall, and behind it a sealing flap attached to the front wall.
  • Such a packing is shown in which the transparent shell is of parallelepiped-shaped or spherical capwshaped form. Goods to be sold are enclosed by the shell and held in it by the sealing flap. Owing to the transparency of the shell the goods are open to inspection by the customer.
  • An object of the invention is to improve the known packing, so as to produce a packing which attracts the attention of the customer to a greater extent, which has a more attractive appearance, and by which the goods to be sold are better packed.
  • a packing of the type in question is characterised primarily in that the part of the shell which projects from the front wall is bounded by a number of surfaces which lie at angles to one another.
  • the boundary surfaces of the projecting shell part may be of a figurative form and arrangement, and the opening of the front wall of the figure formed by the projecting shell part may be correspondingly formed. This gives special light effects. Further, the packing, owing to the figure formed by the projecting shell part, has an attractive and characteristic appearance.
  • the opening of the front wall is in the form of an equal-sided octagon and the shape and arrangement of the boundary surfaces of the projecting shell part correspond to the surface of a ground diamond.
  • Another constructional form of the invention provides for the opening in the front wall being of star-like form and the boundary surfaces of the projecting shell part are of star-like form and arrangement. It is however possible, in accordance with the invention to have packings with numerous other figures formed by the opening of the front wall and also by the boundary surfaces of their projecting shell parts.
  • the front side of the sealing flap turned towards the shell is shiny preferably being covered with shining metal foil.
  • the metal foil may be coloured.
  • both the rear side of the front wall and the front side of the sealing flap have an adhesive substance in the region surrounding the opening of the front wall. Goods in the shell of the packing can thus be securely sealed in.
  • the adhesive substance also permits repeated opening and re-sealing of the shell opening by means of the sealing flap.
  • FIGURE 1 is a front elevation of a first example
  • FIGURE 2 is a longitudinal section on line A-B of FIGURE 1;
  • FIGURE 3 is a rear elevation
  • FIGURE 4 is an elevation showing the packing opened out
  • FIGURE 5 is a front elevation of a second example.
  • FIGURE 6 is a side elevation of the second example.
  • Both examples have a rectangular front wall 10 of stiff paper.
  • they have a rear wall 11, also of stiff paper, which walls are connected and fold at the longitudinal edge 10a.
  • the rear wall 11 has a tongue 12, formed by a cut-out 13.
  • the packing also has an attachment strip 14 of stiff paper. This is connected with the longitudinal edge 10b so as to fold over, and can be pushed under the tongue 12 to close the package.
  • At the upper edge 10c and also at the lower edge 10d of the front wall there are attached edge strips 15, 16, which can be folded rearwardly.
  • Corresponding edge strips 17, 18 are attached to the upper edge 11a and also the lower edge 11b of the rear wall 11.
  • the front wall 10 has an opening 19 in the form of an equalsided octagon.
  • a shell 10 of transparent plastic material is arranged in this opening 19.
  • the arrangement of the shell 20 is such that its bulge 20a projects forward beyond the front wall 10 (see FIGURE 2) and it is attached at its edge 20b to the rear of the front wall 16.
  • the bulge 20a includes a number of surfaces 21 at angles to one another. The arrangement and dimensions of these surfaces 21 are such that the bulge 20a has the form of the surface of a ground diamond.
  • the front wall 10 has an opening 22 in the form of a star.
  • this opening 22 is arranged a shell 23 of plastics material with a bulge 23a projecting beyond the front wall 10 and with its edge attached to the rear side of the front wall 10.
  • the bulge 23a is also bounded by a number of surfaces 24 at angles to one another.
  • the bounding surfaces 24 of the bulge 23 are of star-like form.
  • sealing flap 25 which, when the packing is closed, covers the shell 20 or 23 from the rear.
  • the flap 25 is formed of a sheet 25a of stiff paper, provided on its front side with a shining, coloured metal foil 25b.
  • Both the rear side of the front wall It) and also the front side of the sealing flap 25 are provided with an adhesive substance in the region surrounding the opening 19 or 22. Because of this there is the possibility of combining the sealing flap 25 with the rear side of the front wall 10 by adhesion, and thus of producing a reliable sealing of the shell 20 or 23.
  • the shell 20 or 23 can also be opened, if required, by freeing the sealing flap 25 at its front side partially from the rear side of the front wall 10.
  • a package for needles comprising a sheet of stiff paper having a front wall and a rear wall connected by a fold line along a first longitudinal edge, a tongue formed in the rear wall by a cut-out, an attachment strip connected along a fold line on a second longitudinal edge of said front wall, upper and lower edge strips respectively attached by fold lines to said front and rear walls at respective upper and lower edges thereof, an opening in said front wall, a transparent plastic member having a dome-shaped shell extending forwardly through said opening and consisting of a plurality of angularly connected fiat surfaces arranged about the center of said opening and a sealing flap mounted behind said transparent plastic member and having a reflective foil coating facing said plastic member so that the foil coating and the flat surfaces of the plastic shell mutually cooperate with the contents of the package to reflect light in a pleasing attention attracting manner.
