V V ATTORNEY,
N, PETERS. Phaln Lilhugr-aplmr, Wavhingtnn. D. C.
nirrnn ra'rns JOHN H. BOYCE, OF BROOKLYN, NEWV YORK.
NECKSCARF- EXHIBITO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 329,258, dated October 27, 1885.
Application filed September 6. 1884. Serial No. 142,356.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. BOYCE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in NeckscarfEXhibitors, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a face View of a neckscarfexhibitor embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a view of the back thereof. Fig. 3 represents a horizontal section in line a" at, Fig. l, enlarged.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of a card provided with means for supporting the scarf thereon, and adapting it to exhibit the scarf to the best advantage and preserve the shape of the same.
It further consists in applying to the card pieces of material indicating the nature, de sign, and color of the material of which the scarf may be made.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a card in which, on opposite'sides, are openings a a, through which the band of a neckscarf is inserted, a portion of the band being passed through the scarf and the tip thereof folded and concealed between the back of the same and the face of the card.
B represents a fastener, which may be of the order of a paper-fastener, employed for connecting the skirts of the scarf with the card, the same being passed through the card and one of its skirts, and its legs are bent overor clinched, it being noticed that the head of the fastener is on the back of the card and the legs thereof are between the two skirts, whereby the fastener is completely concealed, it being evident that the head of the fastener may be between the skirts and the legs clinched on the back; but this is not desirable, as the legs are obj ectionably exposed. Two openings, a, are employed on each side of the card, whereby as part of the neckband is passed through the same both the facing and lining of said part are shown, and the trade-mark, &c., printed on or affixed to said lining is readily seen, it being further (No model.)
evident that the name of the manufacturer and other matter, if marked on said lining, may also be exhibited. As the neckband is securely held 011 the card by the walls of the openings at and the skirts are connected with the card by the fastening B, the scarf is firmly and nicely retained in position on the card. The scarf rests flat in position, and is prevented from rumpling, shifting, and displacement, is, furthermore, presented to the best advantage, and the general effect of the scarf when worn readily determined. When the scarf is to be removed from the card, the fastener B is released and the band withdrawn from the openings (m, it being found that the scarf has been in nowise injured by its connection with the card.
For sample or salesmans purposes I paste or gum on the face of the card pieces I) of the material or fabric of which the scarf is or may be formed, whereby selections of scarfs may be made as to color, patterns, the. Spaces 0 are also provided on the card for the name of the manufacturer or dealer, price, number of the pattern or style, and other information.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. Aneckscarfexhibitor consisting of a card having two openings, a a, on each side for the passage of the neckband of the scarf, a fastening for the skirts, and patterns of the material of which the scarf may be formed, substantially as described.
2. A neckscarf-exhibitor having two openings on each side of the card, and having secured thereto a necktie the band of which passes through the said openings, and being also provided with patternsof the material of which the said scarf may be formed, substantially as described.
3. Aneckscarf-exhibitor consisting of a card having openings for the passage of the neckband and a fastening device for connecting the skirts of the scarf with the card, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
