Description

Dec. 12, 1961 s. GRISHMAN 3,012,558
GIRDLE WITH RELATIVELY MOVABLE FRONT WAISTBAND PANELS Filed Nov. 25, 1959 22- INVENTOR.
HTTORNE Y United States Patent 3,012,558 GIRDLE WITH RELATIVELY MOVABLE FRONT WAISTBAND PANELS Simon Grishman, Yonkers, N .Y., assignor to William Gluckin & Company, Inc., New York, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed Nov. 25, 1959, Ser. No. 855,457 2 Claims. (Cl. 128-546) This invention relates to girdles, wherein the front and primary waistband portion of the garment includes relatively movable all-way stretch panels for yieldability of the waistband portion of the garment in the use thereof. More particularly, the invention deals with a garment of the character described, wherein the panels extend to the lower front portion of the garment to provide a reinforcement extending vertically through the front portion of the garment.
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:
FIG. 1 is a front view of a girdle made according to my invention, with the front and back portions of the girdle arranged in fiat condition or one directly upon the other, with part of the construction broken away.
FIG. 2 is a partial section on the line 22 of FIG. 1 through the front only of the garment.
FIG. 3 is a view, similar to FIG. 2, but taken on the line 3-3 of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 4 is a view, similar to FIG. 2, taken on the line 4-4 of FIG. 1.
My invention relates to girdles employing overlapping relatively movable panel portions extending from the waistband portion of the garment to the lower portion of the garment, wherein the garment is formed of allway stretch material. It will be understood, in this con nection, that the garment may be constructed from any suitable material. However, in the diagrammatic showing in the accompanying drawing, the garment is formed from latex fashioned in accordance with conventional methods of procedure.
In FIGS. 1 to 4, inclusive, I have illustrated one adaptation of my invention, wherein represents the body portion of the girdle having, at its lower front and rear edges, depending garter attaching elements 11. The upper central portion of the garment includes two overlapping and relatively movable all- way stretch panels 12 and 13 extending integrally from the front sides 14, 15, respectively, of the waistband portion 16. The panels 12 and 13 in the construction shown extend from sections 17 and 18 adjacent the waistband portion to the lower edge of the front of the garment, an indicated at 17' and 18'. The panels 12 and 13 are integrally united with the body portion 10 of the garment and with each other, as diagrammatically indicated at 19 and 20 in FIG. 2 of the drawing and by the lines 19 and 20 in FIG. 1 of the drawing. To clearly illustrate the individual panels 12 and 13, a space or chamber is shown between the same at 3,012,558 Patented Dec. 12, 1961 21 in FIG. 2 of the drawing. While the space or chamber 21 can be sealed at the lower edge portion of the garment between the point 17, 18, it is preferred that the same open through this edge, as indicated at 2 1' in FIG. 4 of the drawing.
It will appear, from a consideration of FIGS. 2 and 3 of the drawing that the inner surface of the body part 10, as well as the inner surface of the panel 12. and that part of the panel 13 extending beyond the edge of the panel 12 are faced with a flock facing of any suitable type and kind of flocking material, as diagrammatically illustrated at 22 in said figures.
With a construction of the type and kind illustrated in FIG. 1 of the drawing, it will be apparent that the curved surfaces 14', 15' of the front sides 14, 15 of the waist band portion form a recess or depression 23 at the front of the waistband which facilitates free forward bending of the body and any stresses or strains which prevail in body action are automatically taken up by the relatively movable panels 12 and 13 and transmitted to the hip and thigh portions through the panels, as will clearly appear from a consideration of FIG. 1 of the drawing.
The garment is circumferentially continuous throughout the major portion of its length, as illustrated, for example, by the section on the line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A one-piece girdle of the character described comprising a body portion joined at the front in a pair of overlapped panels of all-way stretch material, said panels extending from upper to lower edges of the girdle, said panels in their entirety being relatively movable, the panels having sides integrally united with each other and the body portion of the girdle throughout the full length of said sides, upper portions of said panels extending integrally from the upper portions of the body portion of the girdle, sides of the panels terminating below the upper edge of the body portion, said overlapped panels forming a chamber therebetween, said chamber opening through the upper portion of the girdle, the upper portion of the panels being of greater width than the lower portion thereof, and the lower edge of the body portion having spaced garter supporting elements.
2, A girdle as defined in claim 1, wherein the entire girdle is formed from latex, and a flock facing on the inner surface of the girdle including one of said panels and part of the other panel.
