This invention relates to wearing apparel and more particularly to an identification tag therefor.

It is an object of the present invention to provide an identification tag that may be readily fastened to any garment or product normally worn or carried -by a person, whereby the identication thereof can be made at any time.

It is another object of the present invention to provide an identification tag of the above type having means for inserting an identification card and means for fastening the device to any garment or product in a simple and efficient manner.

Other objects of the invention are to provide an identification tag bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efcient in operation.

For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 is a front elevational view of' an identification tag made in accordance with the present invention;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal cross sectional view taken along line 2-2 of Figure l, showing the tag in operative use; and

Figure 3 is an exploded cross sectional view showing the manner in which the parts of the tag are assembled together.

Referring now more in detail to the drawing, an identifcation tag 1.0 made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a main body member having a frusto-spherical wall 12 that presents a convex surface 13 on one side and a concave surface 14 on the opposite side. This wall is provided with a central opening 16 and a circular flange 18 that is integral with the peripheral edge thereof. This flange 18 extends from the peripheral edge of the wall 12 in a direction toward the convex surface 13 thereof and is provided with a radially and inwardly extending bead 19 that acts as a retaining means for securing a fiexible card 21 and transparent window 24 within the circular flange 18. The card 21 is provided with suitable identifying indicia 22 and is protected by the window 24 at all times. While 2,863,235 Patented Dec. 9, 1958 the card and window are readily inserted into the circular flange 18, they are not readily removed therefrom because of the retaining action of the bead 19.

Suitable means are also provided for attaching the tag to any desired garment or product. This means includes a rivet type fastener having an enlarged head 27 and a pair of deformable ends 28. The fastener is extended through a central opening 29 in a protective washer 30 which cooperates with the concave surface 14 of the main body portion to clamp the garment or product 31 therebetween. The ends 28 of the fastener are then extended through the central opening 16 in the wall 12 and bent outwardly, as shown in Figure 2, to secure the parts in place. Of course, the fastening means are assembled with the device prior to inserting the identifying card 21 and transparent Window 24 within the front side of the main body portion.

The circular fiange 18 is also provided with a ring 32 through which a flexible chain 33 may be extended so that the tag may be secured to an object. independently of the rivet type fastener, if desired.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.

What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. An identification tag comprising, in c'ombination, a main body portion having a segmental spherical wall, a flat circular flexible card having a surface for inserting identifying indicia thereon, a fiat circular transparent window, means for securing said card and window in assembly with said main body portion in said flat condition, and means for fastening said main body portion to an article, said segmental spherical wall having a convex surface on one side and a concave surface on the opposite side, a circular flange integral with the periphery of said wall extending outwardly in the direction toward said convex surface, and said securing means comprising a beaded edge integral with the outer edge of said flange extending radially inwardly therefrom in overlapping relationship with the marginal edges of said flat flexible card and fiat transparent window.

2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said fastening means comprises a washer adjacent said concave surface of said wall for receiving a section of the garment therebetween, and a rivet extending through said Washer and said wall for securing said washer and main body portion together.
