Description

Sept. 20, 1955 N. BAROUMES 2,718,434
PROCESS OF PRODUCING A RELIEF CONTAINING LAMINATED FABRIC Filed June 16, 1955 IN VEN TOR.
/V//VA 5 460 z/MES BY United States Patent Oflice 2,718,484 Patented Sept. 20, 1955 PROCESS OF PRODUCING A RELIEF CONTAINING LAMINATED FABRIC Nina Baroumes, Juneau, Territory of Alaska Application June 16, 1953, Serial No. 361,986
3 Claims. (Cl. 154-106) This invention relates to a process for producing a relief containing laminated fabric.
An object of the present invention is to provide a process which enables the production of a laminated fabric having an ornamental or decorative design in relief.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a process whereby there is produced a laminated fabric which is flexible and shock resistant and which contains an ornamental design in relief on a face thereof.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a process which is simple in execution, and highly practical.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figures 1 to 4 inclusive are views in perspective showing the steps of the process of the present invention for producing the relief containing laminated fabric.
Figure 5 is a perspective view showing the relief containing laminated fabric produced by the practice of the process of the present invention.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on the line 6-6 of Figure 5.
With reference to the drawing, the numeral 10, Figure l, designates a pliable sheet fabricated of a material selected from the group consisting of soft animal skin leather like reindeer, elk skin, caribou skin, felt, fabric like knit or woven fabric. To one face of the pliable sheet 10 is applied one face of a resilient block 11, Figure 2, and the one face of the block and the complemental face of the sheet are each provided with a tacky substance coating as indicated by the numerals 12 and 13 respectively, the tacky substance coatings coacting with each other to effect attachment of the two faces of the sheet and block together. The block 11 is fabricated from a material selected from the group consisting of foam rubber, sponge rubber.
To the other face of the resilient block 11, Figure 3, is applied a second resilient block 14 shaped in the form of a design, in this instance, as a rabbit. It is to be understood that the design may be in the form of a letter of the alphabet or other ornamental configuration. The other face of the block 11 is provided with a tacky substance coating as indicated by the numeral 15 and the under face of the design block 14 is also provided with a tacky substance coating as indicated by the numeral 16, the tacky substance coatings coacting together to effect attachment of the design block to the other face of the block 11. The block 14 is fabricated of the same material aforementioned for the block 11.
The design block 14 is next covered, Figure 4, with a second pliable sheet 18. The sheet 18 is preferably provided on its under face with a tacky substance coating 19 which coacts with the tacky substance coating 17 on the upper face of the design block 14 to eifect attachment of the design block to the sheet 18. It is to be noted that the portion of the coating 19 of the sheet 18 surrounding the design block 14 coacts with the adjacent portion of the coating 15 of the block 11 to effect attachment of the sheet 18 to the block 11 and thereby form a laminated fabric having the design block in relief, Figures 5 and 6. The second sheet 18 is fabricated of any one of the materials aforementioned for the sheet 10.
A resultant laminated fabric having a relief on the face thereof is ornamental or decorative in appearance, and may be employed for placing initials on ladies bags, for forming seat covers or for making wall plaques.
Having fully described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. The process of producing a relief containing laminated fabric which comprises applying one face of a resilient block to a face of a pliable sheet, applying a second resilient block shaped in the form of a design to the other face of said block, and covering said design with a second pliable sheet to thereby form a laminated fabric having said design in relief, each of said sheets being fabricated of a material selected from the group consisting of soft animal skin leather, fabric, felt, and each of said blocks being fabricated of a material selected from the group consisting of foam rubber, sponge rubber.
2. The process of producing a relief containing laminated fabric which comprises forming a pliable sheet, applying one face of a resilient block to a face of said sheet, applying a second resilient block shaped in the form of a design to the other face of said block, and covering said design with a second pliable sheet to thereby form a laminated fabric having said design in relief, each of said sheets being fabricated of a material selected from the group consisting of soft animal skin leather, fabric, felt, and each of said blocks being fabricated of a material selected from the group consisting of foam rubber, sponge rubber.
3. The process of producing a relief containing laminated fabric which comprises forming a pliable sheet, attaching one face of a resilient block to a face of said sheet, attaching a second resilient block shaped in the form of a design to the other face of said block, and covering said design with a second pliable sheet and attaching said second sheet to the other face of said first block to thereby form a laminated fabric having said design in relief, each of said sheets being fabricated of a material selected from the group consisting of soft animal skin leather, fabric, felt, and each of said blocks being fabricated of a material selected from the group consisting of foam rubber, sponge rubber.
