Abstract

1329786 Leather garments M P BROWN 26 Oct 1971 [15 June 1971] 27908/71 Heading A3V [Also in Division B5] A method of manufacturing an article of clothing includes the steps of procurring a plurality of panels each comprising skiver material secured by a uniformly distributed heat-softenable adhesive material to unpiled fabric backing material, shaping the panels according to a pattern for the article, and securing the panels together according to the pattern e.g. by stitching marginal portions of the panels together. The backing material may be secured either to the grain or to the suede surface of the skiver material which may be reinforced by two layers of backing material. The backing material may be a woven, non- woven or knitted fabric and may be made natural and/or synthetic fibres and is preferably a woven interlining material precoated with the adhesive. The skiver material may be in the form of a single piece; alternatively, it may comprise a plurality of pieces e.g. of rectangular shape arranged either in abutting relationship or with overlapping margins which are stitched together and optionally stitched to the backing material.
