1 This invention relates to a display package for neckties, and'in particular it relates to a display package which may be formed from a single piece of cardboard and which may be used both as a display rack and as a necktie package.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a compact, inexpensive device for displaying a number of neckties, which may be folded to form a necktie package.
A further object is to providean accordion :folded device in which the neckties and the display surfaces are completely encircled by a cover member when the device is folded.
A further-object is to provide a display device which, when folded, forms a shipping package in which the neckties are not crushed closely against each other. v
The invention is illustrated in a preferred embodiment in the drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a fragmentary plan view of a cardboard blank from which the device is formed; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of said blank; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the display package in display position with neckties in place; Fig. 4 is a top plan view similar to Figs 3; Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the package in closed position; Fig. 6 is an end elevation of the package inclosed position; Fig. '7 is a plan View of a necktie shaper member; Fig. 8 is a fragmentary rear elevation showing a single display panel, and illustrating one method of placing a necktie therein; Fig. 9 is similar to Fig. 8, and illustrates a diiferent methodof placing a necktie on a display panel; Fig. 10 is a section taken as indicated at l0l9 of Fig. 8; and Fig. 11 is a section taken as indicated at u 1| of Fig. 9.
The device comprises a series of hingedly connected panels, each of which is provided with appropriate meansto receive and hold a single necktie. The display panel sections may be Zigzag or accordion folded along their hinged connecting lines so as to stand upona store counter with all the neckties visible fordisplay purposes. Cover members are integrallyconnected to the series of hinged display panels, so that the entire display device may be folded with the display panels superposed upon one another, the cover panels wrapped thereabout and the entire package secured in some convenient fashion. Thus, the device serves the dual purpose of a display member and a shipping package. As will be observed in the detailed description which fol lows, the entire device may be blankedout of a single rectangular piece of cardboard or other sheet material.

(01, 2067) Referring to the drawings in greater detail, and referring first to Fig. 1, a rectangular sheet of cardboard indicated. generally at It], provides a blank from which the display package may be formed. A' transverse score line .H spaced from one end of the cardboard blank forms one margin of a display panel section I2, and additional score lines ll delineate additional display panels l2 which are identical with that first mentioned. As best seen in Figs. 3 and 4, there are preferably five such display panels, although it will be apparent from the description of the device that any number of panels may be formed and particularly any odd numbered plurality of panels. An odd number of panels is preferred so that none of the backs of the panels 12 will be visible when the assembled display package is on a store counter in display position. Ad-
:jacent display panels are separated by two score lines H, the space between adjacent score lines forming spacing strips [3, the purposeof' which will be more fully described hereafter.
Additional score lines [4 setoff a series of sections I5, I 6, ll, l8 and I9 which provide cover panels. The cover panel section [9 has formed in its end margin spaced tongues 20, 2| :andZZ of conventional type which combine with slits 23, 24 and 25 to provide means by which the finished display package may be retained in its Inasmuch as the display panel sections" l2 are identical, only one will be described in detail. The display panel section I2 is cut adjacentone of its ends, as at 25 and 21, to form means providing a supporting edge upon which a folded necktie may be hung for display purposes. In. the preferred form shown, 26 and 2'! ar spaced parallel U-shaped cuts which form a U-shaped hanger member 30. Score lines 28 and 29extend across each arm'of the hanger member 30' to permit said member to be bent, or hinged, on
the display panel l2.
Spaced between the'hanger member 30 and the more distant margin of the display panel l2 are a pair of spaced,'general1y parallel cuts 3] and 32 forming a necktie retaining strap 33 7 across the display panel l2. As seen in the drawings, the cuts 3| and 32 are preferably fluted or scrolled in order to provide a decorative strip upon which the name of the manufacturer or dealer, or other desired information may be imprinted.
Spaced pairs of substantially perpendicular cuts 34 and 35 flank the margins of the retainer strap 33 and the extremities of each pair are I panel I2 when a necktie is inserted therebehind.
Referring now to Figs. 3 and 4, the blank formed from the sheet of cardboard. ii! is shown after it has been assembled into the display package, and the manner of displaying neckties therein is illustrated. As best seen in Fig. 4, thedisplay panels l2 ane accordion folded with .re--- spect to one another along the score lines H so that the display package may stand on one of its longitudinal edges to furnish asuppoit'for neckties. The hanger members 30 are bent forwardly along the score lines: 38 and 2.9, and a.
necktie N, folded twice as it would be for insertion in a box may be hung over each hanger member 30. The necktie may be hung entirely in front of :thedisplay-panel 12, with twoof :its folds behind 'the'rhanger memberi30, as shown in Figs. 8 :and 3.0;. oralternativ'ely, it may be hnng with only fits free ends in front of the display panel 12 and withitsrfolded center portion in :back of the panel 1:2;as5shownzin Figs. 9 and 11. .In the latter .case, thehanger member :may remain substantially. in the plane :of the-display, panel l2 and the broad tongue 40 between thetU-shaped :arms .may bend slightlybackwardout of the plane :of the display paneL The lower end of the necktie is inserted behindthe retainer strap 33, and thesrelief'panels 3B and-39will then bendrearwardly along the a .score lines "36' and 31, so as to permit the retainer strapu3-3-to :lie :substantially'in the plane of the displayjpanell2.
As best seen inzFige, whenthe display package is in its displayposition with the display panels 12in open display relationship, the cover :panel sections l to- 19, inclusive, .are placed in angular relationship with respect to one another by bending :thetsheetlfl along the several score lines l4. Thee-over panel-sections thus may be :readily disposed'largely to :the'rearof the-'display-panels I? when the package-is in display position, increasing the-stabilityof the-dis pla-y by broadening the base upon which it rests.
As best seen in Figs. 5 and 6, when the display packageis in its "closed position, the display panels A 2 are superposed relationship and the spacingstrips H :assure that adjacent panels l2 will be spaced apart a su-fiicient distance to prevent' crushing -of the neckties against oneanother; The cover panel sections completely encircle the display panels when the package is closed,.thecover panel -l5-:lyingagainst the rear surface of the immediately adjacent panel-l2, the coyerpanel 15 lying across the upright margins .of the display .panels |.2- and against the surfaces of two of the spacing strips l3, the cover panel -11 ly-ing over the surface of the outer display panel .'l.'2-(the-one at the left hand side of the sheet in Fig. .4 the cover .panel .I 8 occupying a position opposed to that .ofthe cover panel .IB
andithe coverpanell9 lying against the surface v 4 of the cover panel [5 to complete the package. The tabs 20, 2| and 22 are inserted respectively, into the slits 23, 24 and 25 to retain the package in its closed position.
In order to prevent sliding and wrinkling of the neckties on the display panels I'2, it is preferred that a necktie shaper member 4|, illustrated in Fig, "7, be insertedwi'thin eachnecktie. The shapermember is preferably apiece of cardboard of the same shape as the wide end of a fore-in-hand tie, and is long enough to extend within theneektie to the hanger member 33 and back beneath the retainer strap 33.
