Description

March 1952 s. E. WEAKLEND ETAL DISPENSER FOR ROLLED PAPER WITH AUTOMATIC HOLDING BRAKE- Flled May 25, 1949 INVENTOR. L. L. SIMPSON S. E. WEAKLEND ATTORNF Patented Mar. 18, 1952 DISPENSER FOR ROLLED PAPER WITH AUTOMATIC HOLDING BRAKE Stephen E. Weaklend and Lynn L. Simpson, Portland, Oreg.
Application May 25, 1949, Serial No. 95,319
1 Claim.
being torn and completely release it while being withdrawn.
The third object is to so construct the dispenser that the roll of paper cannot be misplaced therein and that there is only one way in which the paper can be threaded when starting a new roll.
The fourth object is to reduce the amount of waste by spinning a roll during unsuccessful attempts to draw paper therefrom.
The fifth object is to construct a dispenser which will operate with equal success with various widths and grades and thicknesses of paper.
2 end of which is a sharp point 26 which engages the paper 21 and pierces it, thereby starting the tear.
' In addition to the foregoing, we have provided an automatic brake consisting of a shaft 28 which is supported by the sides II, on which shaft is pivotally mounted a plate 29 whose rear edge is upwardly curled toward the back Ill.
The forward edge of the plate 29 is downturned to form a shoe 3|, over which paper 32 from the roll I! rides when pulled downwardly as shown in Fig. 2. This downward pull unbalances the plate 29 causing the brake shoe 2| to move away from the inner face of the front 22. Suitable latches (not shown) are .provided for the door 22 to enable it to resist the tearing action without being opened.
It can be seen from the foregoing that w have provided a dispenser which, although simple and inexpensive, will effectively dispense any kind of paper in roll form.
Obviously any size of dispenser desired can be made. ,Our invention is directed particularly to We accomplish these and other objects in the-:
manner set forth in the following specifications as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in
which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation with the door open.
Fig, 2 is a section taken along the line 22 in Fig. 1 but showing the door closed and brake released.
Fig. 3 is a closed. v
Fig. 4 is a partial section similar to Fig. 2 but showing the brake set.
Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the device.
Like numbers of reference refer to the same or similar parts throughout the several views.
front elevation showing the door fat Referring in detail to the drawing there shown a back in having the fixed sides H which are held in proper relationship by the partial top}: l2 and the tie l3 which unites the lower edgesf Mofthesides ll.
Journalling across the sides II is a paper roll shaft l5 provided with a wooden core l6, upon which is mounted a roll of paper [1.
The sides II are rounded on the upper front corners I8 which are tangent to the top I2 and also tangent to the vertical front the sides I l.
Below the portions I 9 are the concave edges 20 which, together with the edges l8 and I 9, are provided with an inturned flange 2| against which rests a door 22 which is joined by the hinges 23 to the top l2.
The door 22 conforms closely to the shape of the sides H and at its lower end 23 extends tangentially from the curved portion 24 and terminates in a saw tooth tearing edge 25 at each portion I9 of the automatic brake mechanism and the related elements of the dispenser.
We claim:
A dispenser for toilet tissue in roll form. comprising a casing including a pair of end walls together with a back and partial top uniting said end walls, a tie between the lower front ends of said side walls, a" floor plate pivotally mounted in said side walls having an upturned rear edge tangent to said back and having its front edge down-turned to form a shoe in front of said tie,
a door hinged to the forward edge of said partial top and extending in an inclined manner past the down-turned shoe, said extending portion having a serrated edge with projecting teeth at each end, said floor plate having its rear portion heavier than its front portion whereby the shoe will normally holdthe paper against the back of the inclined part of said door and to be re- 7 leased when the paper is withdrawn.
